Hello,
I've had a drawing of a sensei, a sword master, carrying an odachi, a long sword, in my drawer for a long time.
Now I have decided to place an order for the realisation (sculpture and casting) and have also found a suitable artist from a former Soviet republic. For cost reasons, the figure is to be made of resin and 90mm tall, based on a samurai 160cm tall.
Unfortunately the sculptor can only produce the figure without the sword, as I need the sword, i.e. the blade, in steel because of the length of 8 -9cm.
With the length of the blade, tin or resin versions are absolutely useless.
Perhaps I have found a solution for the sword in Russia.
But it would be nice if someone here could make suggestions. I would also welcome comments and criticism on the figure.
The edition will comprise 20 pieces.
Here is a short info from the net about the ODACHI sword:
„The odachi sword usually had a blade length of more than 90 centimeters, usually around 120 to 150 centimeters long. Some historical records mention odachi that were as tall as their owner’s height, about 175 centimeters or even 220 centimeters long.
The odachi has a shorter hilt in relation to its blade length, making it difficult to handle. Still, it has the traditional sword guard called tsuba and scabbard or saya of a Japanese sword. The odachi had extremely long blades, so the samurai carried them at their backs, slung by cords around the shoulder. „
