I like the idea, if for no other reason that it is a different approach to the nude female form.

Something to watch out for in the subjects found in paintings is body proportions which can get exaggerated. A huge proponent of this were works by Jean Auguste Ingres with his women having elongated backs among other distortions. The back on the 'white slave' seems to have something going on as well, but the sculpt appears to have corrected that. Her left arm in the painting also looks like today's 'cut and paste', but here again the scuplt improved on this and looks much more natural. Good luck!

regards,
Jack

Thank you Jack, you are absolutely right, the sculpture is not an 100% exact copy of the painting. The sculptor approaches a lot but he had to correct some things for the passage in 3D.

it’s pretty, but the painting attempts more story..without the background context present in the canvas, the sculpt look well executed, but isn’t itself saying anything

In my idea it's the miniature painter who will give him this story, this context (whether in a harem, or elsewhere, why not? ... it depends on the artistic approach of the miniature painter)

Golem..I’ve kicked in for the piece..I saw the material on the Kickstarter page and it’s a cool approach...I may critique, but am supporting the concept with my money

Thank you, no problem for criticism, when it is argued it is very interesting ;)
And thank you for your support !!:)

Critique not criticism...in the same way a 3D version of a 2d painting can come out differently than the original, so a photo of the sculpt can come across differently than the actual piece....if something is bad, it’s not worth commenting on. If it’s worth discussing, then it’s got merit

I like Vereshchagin a lot..my problem with the French orientalists is tendency to overdo romanticism...at the same time in England the romantic movement was equally saccharin ...

To the piece at hand, the original painting isn’t much ..not at all relative to impressionists..but more am not quite seeing the story in the sculpt...it’s pretty, but the painting attempts more story..without the background context present in the canvas, the sculpt look well executed, but isn’t itself saying anything

Vereshchagin is definitely my favorite. As for the French,Gerome, hands down.

Oda.

I see this piece as the artist's model posing for the painting ( "Are you doing a tricky bit or can
I have another drag of this fag ?... it's also bloody freezing in here !") How's that for context ?

>Oda,
I love the work of Jean-Léon Gérôme!
I was lucky to see "the snake charmer" when he was loaned to the Giverny museum a few years ago!
I had a hell of a "slap" at that time

Funny, I’ve never thought much of the academic movement, nor orientalism..was way too much over romantic schlock..awards tend to come once a movement is past its best before date..the stuff of David’s, Gericault was better..

Thank you for your support! :);)
To celebrate this, we organise a painting contest (on the subject of our "Esclave blanche")
The winner will win a copy of all the next release of this new range. The second will win a copy of the two next releases and the third, a copy of the next release (certainly the Médée of Alphonse Mucha).
But that's not all!
The museum of nantes (where es exposed the painting) will make a page on its site to present the result of this contest!

Miniatures enter the museum! :)

Arrived today..and as promised....flash free, finely detailed...ready for prime and paint...very nice indeed...the 3d rendering of a 2d original isn’t easy to pull off but it’s evocative and looks to give room for expression by the painter...I am in for more of this series..well done mathieu
