Beautiful Samurai! And as strange as it may sounds, it fills a gap in a Bust Collection.

With this I intend to mean, that there are quite few Samurai busts available and this miniature is certainly most welcomed.

(bottom line: As a matter of fact, I don't recall a Samurai bust with a mask as an option! Harton, Pilipili, Andrea, Pegaso, Alexandros ... all of the ones that are coming now to my memory, and they are so few, don't have masks. I may tend to think that this is a first one!)

Picked one up at Euro and it's a corker.

All I need now is a decent painting reference, as to be honest I know next to sod-all about Samurais! Any recommendations?

Helm,....... Funnily enough I was just looking at getting that film 'Ran',.. Being, (I think), one of Kurosawa's, last works..., I have pretty much all of his other films. Always, excellent.

Mark.

Great bust, it´s very well modeled, I like all the details.
Steve, I´m sure this book is helpful: Osprey Military, Elite Series 23 THE SAMURAI

Helm,.... I love world cinema,....... If you haven't got them aready!... Have a look at, 'Red-Cliff', by Jon Woo, and 'Mongol' by Sergei Bodrov!........ Visual brilliance, and great reference material.

Steve, here's one of the finest references I can advise regarding painting Medieval Japan:

The book is quite cheep. If you are familiar with the "Europa Militaria" series by Windrow & Green, you will probably agree that still in present times all these books are hard to beat regarding their value for money and as a reference source for us. :)

Ratty, ...Here in, lies an issue!... I have never painted a bust in my life!.... Just spent a week! looking at different 'Busts', for a change of pace!.., getting a bit jaded, with my current project. Then you go and throw this one into the mix!.... Grrrr! ...now one of Eight!... Getting a headache.! (Bloody nice piece though).
