While I haven't started to paint figures yet. I do have my first one. I plan to visit this and other sites to learn about figure painting. My name is Jim and I have been a member of many modeling forums. I have taken art at college including Oil Painting. Although that was a very long time ago. I still have all of my stuff. Hope all is well.

James: New to figure painting

Hi Jim:

And welcome to Planet Figure. So you have oil paints. Well, they will work
fine for figure painting. Most of the Planeteers use either acrylics or oils to
paint figures. I use both. If it is leather or a surface like sweaty skin, and I
want the surface to have a sheen to it. I use Oils. Also use oils when I'm
painting horses. For all other aspects of modeling figures I use acrylics.

I will tell you it took me a while to catch on to acrylics, as you use them in
a totally different manner than with oils. But they are fast and you can
achieve all kinds of different effects with the transparent washes.

Once again, Welcome to the group and jump right in by showing us some
of your work when you get started,

Welcome Jim.
Oilpaints has a lifetime ( i believe). I'm a oilpainter to. So buy a figure, go clean, glue it together, prime and paint.
On the way to the finish you can ask, and ask and ask all what you want to know.

Marc
