Thought I might give you an idea of the position of the figures. Please keep in mind I am yet to tidy the hands,I need to add the trouser bottoms to the closest figure etc. I am also removing the thumb of the figure jumping off the tank on the left hand as it does not sit right with the rifle (i'll mould with milliput) I'm not after complete historical accuracy, just as close as I can with some tweaking (neck scalves, head phones, caps etc)

Notice the trousers on the far figure wich is still to be done on the figure by the tracks wich are mouled from milliput I reckon another couple of days and they will be ready to paint :-

First Crew member painted and in position.

I got a good result on the Afrika Korp colour scheme by starting with an olive drab mix with a dark wash building up with a lighter wash.

I think I have done a half decent job of turning the figure in to what it now is as they look like dolls when they first come out the kit and considering this is £100 of plastic it is pretty poor from Tamiya but hey that is part of the fun;)

Lol Just noticed the crappy tamiya crew have no ears:D ??? so I've added some with milliput. Also added 5 o'clock shadow and better strap for the binoculars and just made him a bit more dusty/dirty to reflect the conditions(y) this figure is nearly done.

I think I'll need to spend more time on the commander as I do not particularly like his positioning and sense of weight:( may try and convert the right arm so binoculars are about to be looked through.....any sugestions are welcome(y)

Dave

The old Tamiyakit is a dog compared to todays standards. You would be way better of with the newer releases of Tiger I and figures from Tamiya and Dragon in 1/35 scale. And way below £ 100.00.

Better quality, better details and better fit not to mention accuracy.

Cheers

Hi

I have the premium 1/35 Tiger with porsce turret and also the premium panther D, not to mention some outstanding Alpine resin figures, awaiting my next project.

I wanted 1/25 scale as a start as I am new to this and thought a larger kit would help me in respect of working with light and shadow rather than go immediately into small scale where it is more fiddly and ultimately more difficult(y)

Hi Dave,

Its all about personal preference, I find 120mm scale figures difficault to do !

Im a 1/32 or 1/35 kind of person now after trying out the different scales and as for painting trying out the different mediums to find your niche is a must,...

I tried enamels that wasnt bad
Oils, that was kindov-ok-ish
Acrylics was the one I chose for some unknown reason I found them easier to work with

So my 2 pence worth would be buy some cheap figures to practise on and then keep practising and so on and so forth

I am no expert figure paint wise I am only 1 year ahead of you in this game

Andy

Hi Andy

Thanks for your reply(y)

My preferance is 1/35 but like you say, it's all about practice and this is my intention.

I am also using acrylics with the odd oil wash(y)

Hi Guys

Now completed the commander so posted pics below. I have modified by putting a new hand on a pair of new binoculours and then bringing the arm round so he looks like he has recently used or is about to use them. I have added a neck scalf and a spotted neckerchief and added the cables to the headphones.

This was all done out of milliput and shaping to make it look as natural as I could. I also added red spots to the neckercheif to add some more interest and a leather strap to the binoculours.

I'll now start on the two DAK troops which need some more modification before painting. I'm quite pleased with the results so far and I am looking forward to seeing it all come together upon completion.

Thanks

looking good Dave.

Steve(y)

Thank you Steve

Just been to a car boot sale an purchaed some superb neck chain in various sizes that looks like real heavy duty chain once you scale it all for £1.50:D

Not decided on a title yet, I have tried to capture the motion of urgency and surprise, maybe from a near miss that came out of nowhere, so need to express that in a simplistic way that will immediately draw you in to the scene.

Any sugestions I would happily use so please fire away.

Dave

Yeah amazing what you can pick up at the car boots for modelling mate, I haven't been for a few weeks now but normally I am trawling around either Croft or A47 car boot on a Sunday.
What car boot did you go to ?

Maybe just `NEAR MISS` would work mate or `CLOSE CALL`.

Looking forward to seeing more on this one Dave

Are you going to Euro ?

Steve(y)

Hi Steve

I go to the large Car Boot at Quorn, it's very good for this kind of thing(y)

Is the Euro in Folkestone??

I like "close call" that's kind of catchy and fits the scene well:cool:(y)

Ah not tried Quorn yet, might have to get over there one Sunday before they shut down for winter.

Yeah Euro is held in Folkestone.

Ah yes Historex Agents have sent me an email............I may do, but it's a fair old way and I am away on buiness on the Friday so not sure.

Dave:)

Ok here are a couple of pics of the first troop that I am modding.

I need to open the collars, bring the jacket off the leg mould and get rid of the gas cannister strap & improve the nose.

I've already sorted the trouser bottoms and left hand thumb (so he is actually holding the rifle:-

All the remedial work should really improve this figure Dave, its amazing what you can do with some figures if you put a bit of work in.

Thanks Steve(y)

If you have some creative ability then you are 50% there but the other 50% is confidence which grows with every success. I am looking forward to getting stuck in(y)

Readdy to start sculpting the uniform and adjust the facial features(y)

Note that I have narrowed the neck so the open collar sits properly:-
