I want so bad to like this bust. It has such great potential given the subject and possibilities of a prideful or confident look. I just can't get past the fact that she seems to have her breasts hanging out for no other reason than titillation, and her expression is simply one of uncaring and complacency. She looks almost as if she posed for a portrait that she simply didn't want to in any way! The fact that the helmet has the protrusions nearly sagging downward only adds to the depressing look she strikes here. It looked that way when I saw the raw sculpt and I thought maybe the paints would change that, but unfortunately for me, it still looks as if she needs a Prozac.

Now, with that said, because I'm sure some will be offended by my comments, I will add here that the piece is sculpted quite well. Proportions, folds, hair...all are very well done. It's just the expression that doesn't do it for me here. Well, (and it goes against every fiber of my "man-card" totin' self to say it) and the bare breasts. Not that they aren't nice ;), just unnecessary me thinks. Tirade over!

Change the helmet and cover up her "bits" and this would actually be a pretty cool bust. It looks closer IMO to how the actual historical person probably looked than say the Pegaso pin-up offering.

On the second one, I would have put the painted image as the larger picture and the contents as the smaller one, but that is just me as i would use it as a painting guide. looks a superb model and painted superbly too.

Hi Guys ,
I agree with Jay's comments , but she does look really compacenet .not the image of a warrior queen ..it might be the pictures but the flesh looks too light ...eyeshadow ...not for me ......cover her up I say . .......nice painting on the cloak though ....

This bust could be so much better IMO

I agree about the fleshtones and the eyeshadow.

What is a diferent between a female or male chest naked?
Hardcore? NO, is artist matter of taste.
For me is no problem i am naughty boy.;) Perhaps is better see, gore and violence?!
Everybody has is own opinion, the important for a company is make money and do business and this busts sells very well like the germans.(y)
Cheers:)

For me, this is a missed opportunity.
Historical perspective: don't know enough about the period and/or persona to comment, but is that REALLY a queen's helmut? If yes, then I stand corrected.
Artistic perspective: I'm not getting a "Queen of the Britons" vibe from this sculpt. What is the artist trying to tell us? What am I missing?
Technical perspective: from the well-done photos (both prior sculpt and present painted version), the casting and painting seem to be skillfully produced. In today's market, I would expect nothing less.
Business perspective: For me as a consumer/potential customer, this is where the miss occurred. If I saw this bust on a show table, I'd admire it, and move on. Not my particular interest, but I could appreciate the work involved.
On the other hand, as a commercial piece, there's nothing about this offering that would induce me to 1) purchase it, 2) paint it, and/or 3) display it. Where's the regal bearing? Where's the strength of personality that allowed this historical woman to lead and command men? Weak neck, tilted helmut, strange, almost vacant facial expression . . . this is the image of a leader?
If a figure producer wishes to cater to the T&A crowd (of which I occasionally count myself a member), one would be better advised to look up Mike Crusinelli (sp?), and try to reissue his pieces from the late 1990s and early 2000s.
So for me, this fails both as a historical person bust, and as a titillation subject. My dollars will not be spent on this offering.
Now, I understand that I may hold a minority opinion here, and this piece may, in fact, sell very well. For the producer, I hope that it does so.
Regardless of one's opinion, and regardless of how many copies actually get sold to painters (not distributors/shops), it will be interesting to see if this bust appears at any or many of the 2012 shows.

I claim no high moral grounds and breast per se dont offend me. I feel that in most currently availiable they are unnecessary and artistically spoil otherwise good figure rather supplement it (unles they are nice breasts and justifed by character).

Approach " tits will sell" seems a bit peri-pubescent and no doubt sculptors have alot of fun making them, smoooooooth sculpey under fingers and all that.

Opinion of mine as it may be - appears to be widely shared

Hi
First thing I got to say ...is I like this figure... its closer to a historical Boudicca than some other offerings

That said ....ok the bare breasts... are not a problem when i get my casting intend to cover them up but still keeping the shape its a good option ... as for the expression may attempt to alter it ... so for me this
bust has great potential

The helmet ... well it looks like it could be representative of an heirloom ..from an earlier period ... more ceremonial than practical

Boudiccas Husband was Prosuticus... king or chief of the Iceni
who had tried to broker a deal with Rome to assure a
future for his wife and daughters

On his death Boudicca and her daughters were treated very badly
resulting in Boudicca calling on all the other tribes ... with the message
"If it can happen to me it can happen to you"

This was the basis of the rebellion

Back to the Figure ......... yes she doesnt look quite the fiery red head
that took on the Romans
but ... I plan to see what I can achieve with some putty
Look forward to enjoying the process
