Thank you, Metal Extremo. I normally try to stick with a limited palette and reuse colors in other mixes (especially in the shadows) to create a consistent look to the figure. On this project I've used an even smaller number of colors than usual. I'm trying to capture a cold winter feel to the piece, so I've intentionally stuck with blues, dull browns, and greys.

I hope it conveys a sense of cold. When I finally get to the base and add the snow, I think that will really help to complete the scene.

This figure has been sitting in my 'almost finished' pile for a while. I finally returned to the figure this past weekend to wrap it up. I painted the base, added some more weathering to the shield, and finally put on the snow effects. It's a combination of Woodland Scenics snow for the bulk and then a layer of crushed glass from Secret Weapon Miniatures on the top to create the sparkle effect.

I wanted to add a narrative quality to the scene, so I placed footprints and blood drops in the snow. The details of the story are left up to the viewers, but the general idea is there was some fight/battle and someone who was injured got away. Now this guy is tracking him down. I hope you like the end result. I'll be entering him into the Crystal Brush competition at the end of the month.

I do like what you have done here with this figure, its not my period but I can appreciate a good paint job.
I might even try some thing like this,
regards

This is a very nice paint job altogether .

A minor point which I see in a lot of models re the cold look to a face .
Being someone who has spent his whole working life in the great Scottish outdoors , ones face and hands go more white and blue as the blood drains back to protect the organs .
And only returns when you get into some decent heat which causes the face to look like the proverbial garden gnome :)
