Well, here we are again.
Yet another offering from Nuts Planet, I'm not on commission or anything, honest.
This is their rendition of a soldier from the 101st Airborne "Screaming Eagles", any resemblance to any actor past or present who looks anything like Damian Lewis portraying Dick Winters from the TV series "Band of Brothers" is I'm sure pure co incidence, mind you their Teutonic Knight looks like Kurt Russel and Crusader Knight looks like Orlando Bloom.
So, on the button, what do we get in the box.
Here's the box art, again sculpted by Jun-Sik Ahn and beautifully painted by Myeong-Ha Hwang.
The first layer, sandwiched between thick foam, torso, back pack, arms and the two heads.
As you can see, Damian Lewis and Bobby DeNiro as Travis Bickle from Taxi Driver, only kidding, the alternate head has the Mohawk haircut worn by the pathfinders, I've
got a picture of Eisenhower talking to a couple of pathfinders with Mohawks and full war paint, the picture was taken at Aldermaston near Reading when it was a glider airfield in 1944, Waco's I believe, the 82nd Airborne being stationed at Greenham Common, as I work at Aldermaston it's my tenuous link to the piece.
The detail is amazing, visible stitch marks in 1/10 scale and the patch and shoulder title are perfect.
The pack, again incredible detail and locates solidly to the back with barely a join, although all parts will be drilled and pinned.
As you can see from that last shot the uniform is exact, even showing the double gusset on the M1942 parachute jumpers jacket.
Next layer has the helmet and 3 baggies of parts, some of which are incredibly delicate but amazingly intact, at the moment, wait till I get my fat sausages on them, the carpet monster will be well fed.
Fit of hand to the Garand is really nice, good trigger discipline as well, with his left hand on the foregrip holding a spare clip.
Lanyard on the M1916 holster is so fragile I'm bound to snap it off, and the small strap, that was a mystery, for anyone else considering building it the strap goes from the pack to the webbing strap on the left side.
The copper wire is meant for clips to attach equipment, according to the Nuts Planet Facebook page, will have to Google that one.
So there we have it, another kit, another mission, luckily I already have the Vallejo allied set, I think the olive drab and US uniform bottles will be empty before this paint is done.
I also managed to dig some reference material out of the book case at mums, I collect Gulf War and Iraqi militaria and have possibly every book published on the subject but these have been on the militaria shelf for years, so never dispose of any reference books, they'll come in handy one day, Google is ok but it's nice to have a book in front of you, I'll also get some downloaded pictures printed off, as I did with Shieldmaiden.
That's it for now, I'll start clean up this week, drill and pin, then draw up a battle plan and hope you're ready for another of my WIP threads.
Regards.
Mick.
