Equipment progress - I broke and lost the ties for the holster so I had to make a repalcement from Duro. Ergggggg!

Looks good Colin. The webbing and gear will help break up and define the large blocks of colour. I'm amazed at the likeness to the actor... impressive.

look forward to seeing the completion of this lovely piece.

Cheers

Colin

Thanks gents - its a great model and that triggers continued motivation. Here's his patch.

TIP: sand down the letters to reduce the cast relief to something more approaching scale. The flatter letters are much easier to paint accurately. I had to resort to artists' acrylics for the patch as Vallejos and sister paints from other manufacturers kept staying too dull to represent embroidery. Even so, the photo makes the yellow look dull...it isn't.

Great work Colin. It's not easy to get the colours right but I think you've nailed it mate. Thanks for the tip about sanding down the letters on the badge too. Good tip mate.

Repainted the jacket - painted over previous paint with Vallejo 988 Khaki lightened with Vallejo ivory. Washed with diluted 50:50 mix of sepia and raw sienna ink to get the green/brown/yellow tinge in some of the OD 3 examples I dug up on line. I also see some OD 3 M1942 uniforms tend toward a pinkish tan...but that is not appealing to my eye.

Inks just applied, hence the shiny spots.

I added a shot of my palette FYI.
