He's coming on great Tim. I especially like what you're doing with the lanyard and other gold work (and a bit jealous I f I'm honest, I can never get this right). A very nice clean paint job so far, he might need a bit of mucking up later ;)

Thanks for sharing (y)

Marvellous work. Please share your palette. I'm learning acrylic painting at present so any palette details help.

Cheers

Good evening,

Billy,

"Nice clean paint job............." and that is how most of my work remains. Never can bring myself to mucky things up after all that effort. View him as pre-fight not post!

Graham & Huw,

I presume the tips \ palette refered to are in relation to the aigulette and epaulettes.

Epaulettes first.

Base coated in Vallejo Japan Uniform.

Detail brought out with a wash of Vallejo Burnt Umber.

Then dry brushed with Vallejo Brass.

Final stage was to apply washes of Games Workshop Brown Ink to give greater depth. This might need further work.

Aigulette \ Lanyard.

Base coated Vallejo Yellow Ochre.

Washed with Vallejo Burnt Umber to give depth.

Dry brushed with Vallejo Old Gold.

Washed with Games Workshop Brown Ink to enhance depth.

Finally lightly brushed with Jo Sonja Pale Gold to enhance the highlights.

I hope that gives the jist of things, the rest is, as ever, down to practice.

Tim

Many thanks Tim, good of you to take the time to pass on your techniques. That will be going in my 'tips diary' for later experimentation :)

Hello Tim. I echo Graham's thanks - I've been working with acrylics for all of 2 weeks or so and really appreciate your hints and tips. Initially I'm starting with Scale 75 colour sets until I find which are most useful.

Thanks and best wishes

Huw

I've not had much bench time recently, but a little more has been done. Main addition - his head is now in place.

As ever all comments welcome.

He's looking really good. It's interesting to see you do the uniform then the face.

Cheers

Huw

Plucked up the courage so now we have a face. Sort of.

Really pleased with the eyes. However, still having a struggle with the flesh tones. Can't seem to get away from a pale tone at present. The photos just seem to highlight this as they tend to wash out, brighten everything. For example he does actually have a 5 o'clock shadow but this is not so clear in the photos. I think I will leave the face as is as I know what will happen otherwise.

Tim

Looking good Tim. I know, to my cost, how constant fiddling can make things worse so leave the face for a bit and come back to it with fresh eyes. Comparing mine to the excellent work at Figure World I have come to the conclusion that my flesh painting needs to be warmed up a touch and possible a tad lighter in some cases.

However, there is no way I would alter what I have, I will just take that lesson on to the next effort. If you get a chance to get to a figure show then do it. You will realise how different things are in the flesh rather than in pictures.

This is nice and the green looks great.
A little comment and it is nothing to do with the painting but the Agiuillette at the rear looks like there is a couple of cords missing , this is an easy fix and not to late to do.
For ref , have a look at the Metal Models site , click on guard cavalry , there is a good pic of the rear of the uniform on the unmounted figure.
