As Andrea posted, I had just entered it in the comps, and spotted brian's bustoramas, and was chatting with mick.
John euro is a situation unique in that putting your models on show amongst these top european modellers is a humbling thing.
To get any award is such a bonus mate in such company.
I got a commended for a 32mm little lady called tinkerbelle.View attachment 207988 View attachment 207989
This bust was unplaced, but I so enjoyed painting it.

Likewise mate, good to start the day over a fry up that would choke the average dinosaur.
I was so impressed with the group effect of your french lollypops and the award for both sets of busts.
.
You can take a deserved rest from napoleonics for a while eh?,
Hang on...... You've bought more incha. I admit I have !
Vive les soldats de france.

Gordon I loved it, and as someone said today, nice to see a bust mounted on a plank.
Missed you not being there for the banter mate.

Cheers great provider of quiche and sunshine for two days !!!!!!

Thanks to all of you for your kind words and sincere friendship

Uhoh......Noooooooooooh.
I really should think before typing, I usually catch others for inferences like that !:).
I meant the portion was proper mate. I had my own when the london lads turne up.

Yep good mate, there is just something about green/red combos on a figgie that soothes the soul. How did you do the gold braiding?
Cheers Paul

You are darn tootin' correct dude, ask any welshman or italian :)
Me likee them dragoonsand kingdom of italy troops and gardes d'honneur too !

The way I paint gold is peculiar to me it seems.
I start with
Base: chocolate mixed with a brassy gold, 60% choc.
Mid layers: Chestnut/gold, mixed same,
Highlights: Iraqui sand/gold mixed same.

But, as each layer dries, it gets a thin wash of brown black to delineate the deep shadows only.

Once all the layers are dry and have stood a day or so, I go back with a very fine brush and pure gold with a touch of sand, and carefully here and there add high points.

As the model turns, the gold braid sparkles and glitters slightlym

BUT: on this model, the gold braid against the green looked too red, so I used more of the paler and extreme highlights to reduce "the redness" I was seeing.

But it seemed fine to leave it alone on the scarlet dolman.

Metal chinscales, metal fittings and buttons are painted
Base: Chestnut/gold 30/70. Mid: gold/gloss varnish.
Highlight: Gold/Silver/gloss v, and they shine fully.

Hoping this makes sense, thanks again for your kind comments.
Paul

It's always nice when someone posts a new addition to an older thread, thanks for your comments on the gold lace guys.
