I found this image on the web this morning. It shows 2 of 8 new pre-paint vinyl action figures coming from McFarlane in May of '05. They will sell for around $12.00 to $16.00 each, no firm price has been announced. They look pretty good, can you say "RE-Paint"!!

Yep, that's exactly what they are (1/12th). The only problem with their toys is that they're somewhat textured. And due to the nature of the plastic used, you can't sand it down or anything to smooth it for a re-paint.

Regardless, I love them. :)

Holy Shi* !
They look amazing , Mcfarlane is getting better by the minute .
I have the entire Tortured Souls series (Clive Barker Cenobites) and they are gore in pure state .
Very realistic , of course , far from our attention to details .
Regards
Julian

Hey Chris,

Sorry, I didn't mean you can't repaint them at all, I just meant that the texturing can make it difficult. That's all.

The Dusty Trails toys are cool too.

I'm in the process of repainting some of the mcFarlane football players to represent some highschool football uniforms from the local area (for friends). Here are a few things that I've discovered about these figures, and they may apply to the military figures.

With the exception of the helmet the figures "break" apart with relative ease. I did have to carve off some long hair from the figures and managed to smooth out the areas with fine sandpaper and steel wool. I was able to spray primer over the paintjobs on the figures as they are. It would be interesting to putty up the gaps and remove the seam lines and give them a good paintjob.~Gary

That's a really cool idea Gary.

Did you find the figures you have are somewhat... sticky? No matter what I wash these suckers in they end up attracting every piece of dust in a 10' radius and on top of that they're perpetually sticky. Maybe I got a bad batch or something.

I think the Dusty Trails Western figures and the pirate captain are quite good ... the captain is my favourite of the bunch.

The scenic setting for the US Marshall is cool (saloon doors) - anyone knows of something like that in 120mm ?

Gary,
Am eager to see your results...can you post what you have done so far...I have been wait YEARS to see your painting... ;)

All the best

Patrick

Francesca, No "sticky" figure problem here

Patrick, The paintjobs are not really anything more detailed than what the original figures look like, except with different team colors. The only part that I did any real kind of shading on was the face, mainly because I wanted to, not had to. Unfortunately most of it will be covered with a face mask and chinstrap/guard.

I do have a couple of one offs I hope to post pictures of once the painting finally gets underway. More later~Gary
