Small question,

Cab_Calloway2.jpg

I want to paint a jacket in this color.
I already made a mix with some Vallejo Old Rose, Basic Skintone and White.
But I don't know what to use to make a shade.
I tried bluegreen, dark green, more blue-ish tones but the color shifts to these colors.
So that's not it. After mixing for half an hour I'm stuck.

Anyway.... Anyone got some tips?

*edit* Come to think of it: a mix with Burnt Cadmium Red and Prussian Blue and mix that with basecolor?

Not much call for guys wearing that colour of jacket in Glasgow Patrick.
But Dave Mitchell paints a lovely lavender so he may be able to help.

I would try some sort of blueish violet. Looking at the photo I seem to notice that the shaded parts tend towards violet (but there might be something wrong with me eyes too :D ).

Also I would start with a darker base colour and then emphasize on the highlighting.

Prepare to: any paint without repetition of the entire effect.
Here it will be difficult to pass just as well the white and pink.

if you have Jo Sonja colors available to you try rose pink as a base and plum pink as intermediate shadow. Add a touch of pthalo blue (or purple madder) to plum pink for deep shadow and a touch of white to the rose pink for highlite. Should work just fine.

Nothing wrong with your eyes, this is just an example of a common type of optical illusion; there are many related ones with highlights frequently seeming to be a different hue to the midtones, shadows seeming to be blue-er (which both can be but they can look that way even when they aren't).

A bit late, but thank you all for the hints and tips.
I eventually chose to make a mix for cadmiumred and prussian blue and mix that with the basecolor.
Although the grey was a nice shadowcolor, It didn't feel comfortable when I had to make new mixes. It was harder to get the exact color again and again.

Top tip: mix enough that you don't have to :) All joking aside this is the best way to avoid that problem, and it's not just with a colour like this that mixing the same colour again can be very tricky.

Maybe this colorpicker will help Patrick. http://www.w3schools.com/tags/ref_colorpicker.asp
Mixing on the screen with this one; http://www.w3schools.com/tags/ref_colormixer.asp
And here to find the color to mix the shadow http://www.w3schools.com/tags/canvas_shadowcolor.asp
And I use very frequent this one to look what colors match to each other: http://colorschemedesigner.com/

Are you gonna paint this ??View attachment 108586

These must be Scots Guards.......I am going by the fact that I think there is another regiment called the Gay Gordons.

Sorry - non PC but I think can get away with the Scots shot because my name is Fraser. :ROFLMAO:

Colin & Justin Derek, :troll:

Oh and Sean Batty, STV weather bloke.
Colin & Justin ...... funnily enough one of them was brought up in one of Glasgows toughest estates.....they then challenged the band Franz Ferdinand for the title of Glasgows Hardest (Art) Students :ROFLMAO:
Watch out for Sean Batty ..... he's had a few up in court for casting nasturtiums
