Hi All,
Not sure if this has been shown before I came across this and thought it might be of interest. May be even a sculptor for a future project.
cheers

That's an AI-generated picture, not authentic.

However Oda Nobunaga apparently had a black retainer that I recently saw in 1/72 scale

Agree there ....wonder how it can be recognised as AI .....asking for a friend !

Usually there's just "something off" about the eyes and hands, though here also the fact that he appears to wear three swords, sword handles don't seem right etc.

Note his thumb here simply vanishing, minor detail:

Frankly not a fan of that stuff as it's used to scam people online, make pornographic material of people without their consent and the algorithms also work by stealing material of real artists/photographers.

Yes, these pseudo historical images are starting to appear more often. Deliberately designed to "re-educate" people about history for DEI socio-political agendas. With the current abilities of AI generation the flaws are usually visible and often obvious, but soon that will not be so. This one is very well done and has a lot of graphics manipulation on top of the AI base.
Sadly, given the general lack of interest and knowledge most younger people have in their history, things like this will simply be taken at face value and become the default truth. I see it as a form of propaganda.

This sh!t is very sinister, and it angers me. History is being deliberately and completely rewritten for the "benefit" of future generations:

White people are and always have been inherently evil. People "of colour" are and always have been inherently noble and beyond reproach. And imperialism / slavery are only bad when Whitey does it.

Orwell lives.

Not sure whether to get into this one.....as an ageing dotard there comes
a point in your life when you're not not indifferent.....It's just that you don't
do outrage and temper any more, and there are better ways to spend your
time. So I'm going to sit this one out, but fight the good fight, Steve, sock
it to 'em...but watch the blood pressure...eh?

Haha yes I know what you mean. I'm not actually an "angry" person by nature, but there are certain things that really raise my hackles and even if I can't change things, I find that a good "rant" occasionally can be a handy relief valve to let off a bit of steam. Plus I'm at an age now where I don't really care too much if something I say "offends" someone - although that said, I don't deliberately set out to do that.

I think it's a real shame that we've now reached a point where so many people are afraid to say what they really think for fear of being howled down as some sort of "-ist" or "-phobe" for daring to take issue with the now dominant leftist, woke "correct-think" that's taken over all the mainstream political parties, the education system, the media, the corporate world, cultural institutions like museums and the National Trust, and even the police & armed forces. It bodes ill for the future of society, and I'm glad that I was born when I was.

The legendary Yasuke. A slave that arrived in Japan with a Portuguese priest I believe. Oda Nobunaga was very impressed with the man and made him a big shot. He disappears from the historical record after Nobunaga is killed.
Edit. That picture is fake if anyone is wondering. There is one painting that appears to show Yasuke wresting. At least it’s believed to be him....seee below

Hi Steve, totally agree with what you are saying, it’s the age of black washing every thing they can think of. Things offend me just as much as everything seems to offend them. It’s just change history to suit the poor darlings we don’t want to upset them. At the end of the day history is is exactly that. They have to learn to live with it period.

Doctoring photos to fit some kind of need to be part of that country’s identity is wrong on every level. They have a history bring that to the table. But that’s not enough always reffing to the slave trade. Point is it’s other African tribes that prayed on each other and sold each other to either Arabs or westerners. They forgot about how meany white people were slaves in that period too. Taken by Barbary pirates. And just how meany black slave owners their were in the USA.

As alway they seem to miss that bit out of history. Let’s just say the photo would make a good fantasy setting in an alternative universe and when he’s not dressing up as a samurai he plays basketball for the LA Lakers which just might be more believable.

There's a vivid conversation at the moment on social media about people of african origin in medieval Japan. While it is true that there was an African who came to Japan in the 16th century via a Jesuit mission and subsequently went on to serve Oda Nobunaga (his japanese named was saved for posterity as "Yashuke"),it is doubtful if he ever attained the rank of samurai.Anyway there are is a number of good publications available where one can read and judge for him/herself.
The photo above was posted initially on a forum claiming to be relevant to the existence of an African Shogun somewhere in the 7th or 8th century.Thre wasn't an african shogun in Japan. Also there was no photgraphy available anywhere on earth before the late 19th century. But all this is irrelevant because the strongest indicator and "telltale"sign of this being a fake is the picture itself. The armour and weapons of this man although looking very ''Japanese" are completely wrong.I could enumerate inch by inch all the mistakes visible on his armour and arms.It is a clear sign of an AI programme which was asked to produce an "African Samurai" and did so by combining the picture of an African with multiple bits and pieces-some correct, some fictional-of Asian and "Japanesque"arms and armour. It is a completely absurd picture.
There is an intersting note here.Quite a few times sculptors have made the same mistake as this AI program.Having been asked to produce a samurai they go on line, pick one,two or very few pictures of what they "think" is samurai armour and then go on sculpting their subject where all the details that are not visible in the pics are omitted and where the various components of the armour are either wrong entirely, partly or placed falsely (which is understandable as the sculptor not having studied enough does not know the "reason of existence"of each piece, how it hangs, what is its purpse and how it is constructed, details which are unfortunately absolutely crucial if one wants to recreate japanese armour in any scale). There is a reason why samurai are considered such a "pitfall" subject in our hobby.

Oda.

PS: although it is difficult for a person over forty years of age and in love with history (as per the majority of PF memebers) to be fooled by AI absurdities, many younger or less informed individuals might fall for such "false claims" and if one adds Netflix's (and other platforms too) "novelties" too......
Well I might be an old geezer but none of the above seems promising for the future..

In my day it was called photo-manipulation and done the hard way with overlaid
negatives and careful and intricate brushwork. I guess the AI label is because all that
is now produced with an algorithm. I wonder if it's the same one used by my supermarket
when they deliver baking powder instead of bacon.......

Saw this the other day......" History is not there for you to like or dislike. It is there for you to learn from it, and if it offends you, even better, then you are less likely to repeat it. It's not yours to erase or destroy, or to alter the known verifiable facts to suit the current fashionable so-called politically correct nonsense."
And, like Mike, I'm off to have a puff on my pipe and take out my little four-legged chum.

For those who may have missed it, Google recently launched an A.I. platform which they had programmed to force woke agenda on the users. It was apparently almost impossible to ask for it to generate pictures of white people/families etc and it objected to any requests for them. It would put up a message to some effect as -we don't think that request is diverse - does not follow programme ethics etc. I post below some of the genuine results for a search of "1943 German soldier".

I suppose us "white colonial supremacists" will now get attacked for wiping out all those poor misunderstood, Afro/ Black American Nazis!

The programme also generated Black and Asian Vikings, Greek Philosophers, and even a Black, and a female Asian Pope. Luckily enough people pointed out the flaws in this enlightened platform and it has been removed for re-consideration. Common sense prevailed at last but it goes to show where things are headed.

It has also been pointed out that A.I. programs have no inherent agenda - they only generate images based on the data and parameters fed into them by the programmers,- so what does that tell you about Google?
