Am I right in thinking that the shotgun is primarily an entry weapon, as in to blow the hinges or lock of a solid door, and very much not a weapon to be used in a hostage situation, in close contact, in convined spaces?

I’m pretty sure they didn’t have tinted lenses on their masks back then also uniforms were more a blue not all black as images provided Your piece is looking great though

Thanks Judd, hadn’t seen the first reference shot before and I think the second one is a screen grab from the Six Days TV series.

Most of the available references I’d found were fairly inconclusive. I did have a comment on Facebook saying that the kit had originally been green and dyed black.

Either way, the intent is to include just enough variation to make the project interesting to look at. Hopefully I’m on the right track.

I think you’ve got the composition right , nice reference pic from Juddo as well
Adding a bit more blue to clothing would add interest and break up all the “black”

It’s a testing project and I think your doing a good job

I was speaking with Rusty Firmin and he said they got the overalls from the Tankies, which are black, not sure if the flash of the camera may have distorted the colour

There is a REALLY good film that is based on the Princess Gate siege…..it’s called “Final Option” or it’s later titling, “Who Dares Wins”….catchy title . Military advisors are listed as “anonymous” and the star is former 23SAS. I was on a law enforcement team whose instructor was FBI HRT and he received training from The Regiment. I carried a BHP for a sidearm and have been stacked-up with Hockler in hand…..great build!

There are many theories on the clothing from green nbc overalls dies black, dark blue, to black tankers uniforms.
At the time there wasn’t a set issue kit for the situation at hand. Hence miss match uniforms. Either way yours is looking pretty good. I’m keen to see what you do with the gas’s mask lenses with the painting in of the eyes, great job, and what you will do to represent the lens over this. Tricky.

With regards to the gasmask lenses, I would take the comments and photos of the era, and go with clear lenses. Personally, I would use Klear (if you have it) or a clear varnish. Several coats will build up to a thick coat, to represent thick glasses.

Thanks all for the discussion on the coveralls and lenses. Will definitely keep those in mind as I progress this project.

Since Juddo and Phil have dropped in perhaps there is a little detail you can help me with. I’ve seen some pics where troopers have a blue or red mark on the respirator filter and their MP-5 magazines presumably corresponding to their respective teams.

Was this a real thing or just on the film/ series?

The blue and red teams were call signs for the breach, I don't believe they had colours to distinguish them, this possibility came from having live and blanks taped to the magazines but not during the raid

Decided to start on the Operation Nimrod vignette I got from Mitches Military Models. Only early days but I think I’m headed in the right direction with my pallet of blacks. From here, I think I’ll get the rest of the figure up to a similar point and then decide how far to push the highlights and possibly build some textures in.

Any suggestions or constructive criticism are more than welcome.
