Beautiful work as i was expecting it Roc. You did great my friend. What's next on your bench?

Roc,

I love the horse! You've captured it wonderfully - especially the eyes which make the face! The hooves turned out great, too!

From the way it is positioned, it looks as though the unsuspecting soldier is about to be nudged (or pushed over ;) ) by his faithful mount!

Bravo and well done! (y)

Justin :)

Hey Justin thanks so much for all the advice on the horse, I know that you lived on a ranch and have been around horses most of your life, and therefore I value your expertise.

Cheers
Roc. :)

Hi Roc,

just droping these lines the congratulate on the excellent job.

Cheers,
Paulo

P.S. - in your articles when painting faces you use Flesh Ochre (Rembrandt) in the base and Alizzarin Brown for deep shadows.
Well, I can't find the first here in Portugal and the second doesn't show up in the Rembrandt and Winsor charts (so I'm told). Can you help me with substituites for those?

Thanks for your kind words, Roc. I am glad to help anyone anytime! :)

I am sincere in my compliments about your horse! So often you will see a beautiful rider with a so-so horse, but I really like yours - especailly the way you painted and captured the face.

Justin :)

Thank you Paulo, it's good hearing from you.

I really don't know of a replacement for Rembrantd flesh ochre, the closest thing is maybe adding a very tiny amount of Mars red.

If you can't find Allizarin brown, you can try mixing burnt umber with Magenta, equal amounts. This will give you a nice rich brown.

Cheers
Roc. :)

Hi Roc,

I'm coming to you again because I came to another deadend  :

Mars Red is out of stock

Is there another color that can be an alternative (Mars Red was already an alternative for Rembrandt's Flesh Ochre) for the flesh base? How about Indian Red?

Cheers,
Paulo

Paulo, not a problem, Unfortunately the Mars colors are no longer produced by Windsor Newton, as far as I know. :(
You can probably use Venition red .

Cheers
Roc. :)
