Wow, absolutely brilliant! Reminds me of the WWI dioramas in the AWM.

This is really top notch modelling mixed with pure artistry. Bravo!!

Could you post some photos that show more of the box/mounting and perhaps explain how you put it together? I would love to try something like this one day.....

UPDATE: Of course I forgot it was you who posted the wonderful Gericault-inspired box dioramas, so I can see from those how you approached this. Wonderful work.

Hi All,

Thank you for yr kind and gracious remarks about this piece. I’m still learning and have some way to go in improving my sculpting and painting skills.

Some pics attached to show the sequence of the build. I used some commercial figs as armatures, and then sculpted the figures. I used figures of different sizes to get my visual perspectives. The smallest are 1/300 skytrex in the background.

The last pic shows the box diorama stacked against the wall on a chest.

Wow, thanks so much for sharing the in progress work. I think doing a box diorama is a long term goal for me but I don't know if I could ever do something as clever and effective as this.

Hi All

I really appreciate all your most gracious and generous comments.

Kevin, I’ll pass on the competition as I still need more time.
Some insights- I was motivated to do a WWI diorama because I had a lot of scalelink figures lying around. I selected this ptg because I thought it would be fairly shallow - Lining up some figures to shoot into the bkgd. As it turned out, I had to use a deeper footprint to get a convincing distance. I improvised on modelling the bldgs in relief, adding cotton wool to simulate smoke and adding tiny 1/300 skytrex figs in the bkgd.

Thanks for your interests and for looking in.
