I have applied dull coat (Tamiya) successfully. These photos show the result of applying diluted gold paint over the dulled pouch belt and the effect of adding final metals to his cartouche pouch. No ink or metal washes on his chest braids yet.

Most of the painting is now done. Still needs some intricate touch ups, metal inks or paint over much of his lace, and the sword needs completing with etching.

Thanks for the kind words Kevin. I am never sure whether such frequent updates are of use or interest to members. I have admit that I mainly do it to leave a record of sculpting and painting methods for my own future reference. But I also like reading other folks' SBSs.

Here are a few pictures of my 1821 pattern light cavalry officer's sabre....luckily since it's the only piece of militaria I own. The acid etching on the blade presents an interesting painting challenge. This sword is marked Hawkes of London (the officer's military tailor - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gieves_&_Hawkes) and the blade is a Wilkinson style, although unmarked except for Hawkes.

Lt. Dunn carried a custom blade by Wilkinson that had been constructed about 4" longer than regulation, commensurate with his much taller than average height. That extra reach may have assisted him in the melee that won him his VC.

Here he is with the gold wash on his lace. Still need to apply some light highlighting to the gold lace to bring back the underlying texture and pattern after the gold wash.

Still need to work on the busby some more to increase contrast of the fur and remove the matte effect of the dull coat. I will also revise his hair colour to increase contrast with the fur of the busby.

Also need to finalize his sword and other minor tweaks like shading the black leather sides of his cartouche box. Hope to finish today or early tomorrow if my wife-planned social life allows.
