I'm currently painting two Pegaso figures, Mayan warrior and Montezuma. I have hit a wall on painting the symbols on them. For example the mayan warrior has a mayan skull design on his loin clothe and Montezuma's shield and cloak (textured surface). I would imagine it be like painting a flag with fold's.

So if there are any articles or SBS I would appreciate it.

Thanks folks

Aaron,

Sorry no SBS on this particular issue that I know of, but I would approach it like painting heraldry on knights or shields . You could try a forum search on heraldry to lead to suitable tips and tricks. Summary: Faintly paint the outline of the symbols, once established paint it as a solid area and highlight and shade (using variations of the symbol colour, not of the surrounding colour) following the contours of whatever the symbol is painted on.

I hope this is of any help.

Cheers, and good luck,

Adrian

Hi Aaron. You can also do a little research on your own and come up with a design that you find easier to do. Box art is not necessarily the only scheme available on most subjects. The artist on this no doubt studied available reference and interpreted that into his paint job. You can do that too, and the research need not be Phd-level thesis in depth, just what you think is probably appropriate. This is especially true for relatively obscure subjects such as this one.--
