Hello plucked up the courage to post the latest figure I've worked on A Para Mount Longdon any pointers in how to get the DPM Camo to look better would be appreciated or any of the painting for that matter ...I use mostly Humbrol Enamels and oils but looking to improve so fire away......

Hi, just my two pence, the camo looks fine, most of our kit was second hand, and by the time we reached Longdon everything was washed out due to the terrible weather, this photo was taken on 14th June 1982 as 3 Para moved off Longdon.

this one just before Longdon.

I added a bit of scrim to the helmet would that have been accurate?

Looks great, i find that thBrit DPM in the 80's is a more "mustardy" color rather than the sand color.
To me is one of the best cammos ever, i am not to fond of the newer patterns.
best regards

Nice job on a big figure, DPM looks good. GPMG is nicely weathered.
Not overdone? I think the camera flash has made it look a bit more knocked about than I have painted it but I do like to give everything a worn look....sometimes it's better to be a bit more subtle but the Para's are known to be some rough lads...Lol

It took alot for me to post photos of my figures in this distinguished crowd of some world class painters and modellers, but I have improved 100 fold in my painting thanks to their advice and am now mediocre! Great job on the figure.

To me, less is always more. Plus I like to give a suggestion of a pattern or a tartan.

Very nice work indeed! .. but if I could be bold, and say, the eyes on your piece seem a little stark, a stronger pupil and a catch light, with a little further shading under the top eyelids would justify for efforts!

Regards,

Mark.

Your right the eyes definately need more work and have yet to add pupils....(head only blue tacked on )....Thanks

Your right there are some truly talented people on here whose work takes my breath away but felt it was time to bite the bullet as they say and get some valid opinions from the experts....Thanks to all who have commented so far it's a great help

Apologies,.. did not realise! ....
Apologies not needed this is exactly what I want mate .....sometimes when you look at something for so long you just can't see what's in front of you....I will say that the figure itself looks a lot darker than my photo...again many thanks for the input much appreciated.....

In my opinion, a great effort. I think the work on the GPMG is class
Many Thanks...the photography is not very good as I say the figure looks much darker than the photo will have to try to get a better shot...but again thanks for the encouragement.....just been watching Zulu Dawn....great film.....Bob Hoskins does a great Victorian WO ..

Wouldn't Bob Hoskins make a great figure? The typical short stocky SNCO. Full of attitude.

Couldn't agree more fantastic actor ....the scene where he's fighting off the Zulus would make a fantastic little diarama ...only wish I could sculpt.....

My two cents...The patterns on the DPM look too "brushstrokey" and should be solid shapes. I try and get a hold of an actaul piece of uniform and copy from the real thing (not that hard with modern stuff). As JimmyOC said it does get pretty grubby but the pattern is still visible. You have got the scale spot on and it doesn't look too "busy" ie more cam pattern in too small an area. Hers a link for some basic research

And a photo of my attempt (colours appear brighter than in real life) The red/brown is actually darker on the model.
