I did not mean to put you in the middle.

I just wanted to understand the statement above

No offence taken, and apology not necessary Giorgio.
I was merely clarifying my position with regard to the list/links.

I've had a closer look at the signature on the 'Royal Artillery, 1764' print (post #66 above) and think that it reads 'A.J. Macdonald'; and have added such to the list.
Of course, if you think I'm wrong, please let me know and I'll correct it accordingly.

Cheers,
Andrew

Hi Andrew,
Thanks for the correction, it was early when I posted this. By the way where is the list at now???
cheers
Richie

Hi Richie,
The list is directly under the 'Artists & Illustrators' section, and is titled 'Part 1,2 - Index Page'.
Just click on that, and you'll get the spreadsheet with links to all the posts.

Cheers,
Andrew

P.S. For Guests, click on 'Sub-Forums 1' and you'll get a drop-down link for the spreadsheet.

Just had a look at "Figures Sculpted after Famous Paintings" in 'General Figure Talk' and found that Ilja Efimowich Repin was missing from the list.

You can find more of his work at:-

While going through the "Figures Sculpted after Famous Paintings" post, I've been coming across anomalies in attributions to artists, particularly the Russian ones.
One thing that I have noticed is that, if you put a particular name in Google search, the images presented often mix up the names, particularly at the top end (where you'd expect the exact 'hits'.
The next thing I noticed was that the web reference often happened to be our PF.
Since it must be an algorithm that's doing the searching, we must now be high on the source list.

My advice is that you do not rely purely on a quick Google search for images, but do a more thorough search for works by the artist, and cross-check the facts before posting.

In the meantime, I'll try to do a full facts check on all the Russian names, and make corrections where necessary.
It will take a while.

Cheers,
Andrew

clarification needed.
in my personal research, I often come across such mistakes.
especially in pinterest where erroneous information is republished exponentially.
Generally check several times. I hope I have not made mistakes and thank you for the time spent

In Post #73 I stated that I'd be carrying out a facts check on the Russian artists and the images presented.
It's been an interesting project, with a measure of success, various blind alleys, and in one case, a total mix-up of names.
I found a useful list of Russian Artists, complete with links which proved most helpful.
During my Google searches I was constantly plagued by 'Pinterest' giving spurious information. It's very good for getting a load of pictures, but potentially dubious regarding the true sources.
I've turned my little table into two jpgs to show what I found:-
Russian Artists - Page 1.jpg Russian Artists - Page 2.jpg
I'd appreciate any reliable information, particularly for the 'black' / 'grey' names.

Cheers,
Andrew

a quick search method is to copy the name to a translator (google translate for example) and translate it into russian to have the Cyrillic script .... so use the Russian and non-English search engine.
when looking for something try to translate into the language of what you are looking for ... not all of us use English (I primarily) and especially look for the search engine in that country.
if you prefer to use google go google on every single country in France, UK, USA, Brazil, Italy ... etc.
