International Painting Workshop 2008

After two successful editions of this workshop at a national level (December 2007 and April 2008), Pegaso Models are proud to announce the first International Painting Workshop, which will be hosted in Siena from 27 to 30 November 2008.
Over a period of four days, in the Siennese countryside, a comprehensive workshop on the technique and art of figure painting will be held. The attendees will be exposed to the painting techniques and routines of the workshop trainers, who will be mindful of and sensitive to each person’s individual styles and preferences. The workshop will have the correct balance of theoretical content, demonstrations and practical ‘hands on’ application, for those who want to improve their figure painting. It will also enable participants to make new networks and provide an opportunity to meet up with old friends.

The aim of this International Painting Workshop is to unite figure painters into a grand community, to create a network of contacts which will transcend international borders, to overcome the doubt, difficulties and fears amongst beginners and to be able to meet some of the internationally famous artists in the world of figure painting who will supervise and work with them.
Similar to the earlier editions, this workshop will be hosted in an environment which will inspire the creative talents of individuals: held in an extraordinary setting with the soft Tuscan hills as a backdrop, at an extremely evocative and historic location (the medieval village of Lucignano d’Arbia), and a reception with typical Italian warmth and hospitality.

Structure

The structure of the International Painting Workshop 2008 is simple. The workshop which will be held in the hall of the “Borgo Antico” Hotel, in Lucignano d’Arbia (Siena), and is pitched as a “general advanced course” in figure painting. It will have two distinct classes: painting with oils and painting with acrylics. The classes will have a maximum of 15 people per class, which is an ideal number to enable the supervisors to offer continual and punctual assistance, input and support on an individual basis.
The classes are divided into a series of painting sessions, each lasting about 4 hours and these will be preceded by a theoretical, introductory lecture which will be held in the late afternoon/early evening, Thursday 27th November 2008. The various painting sessions will be structured into themes and will explore different principles, techniques and practical advice to render flesh, cloth, leather, metallics and decorations.

Each class will be led by two instructors who will alternatively demonstrate their techniques to the class and will provide continuous monitoring and support for the participants.

The classes will be lead by the following:

• Acrylic painting class: Diego Ruina & Emiliano Iacobacci

• Oil painting class: Pietro Balloni & Massimo Pasquali

Although registration is open to all, a minimum level of painting experience (at least at “standard” level) is required. This is because only a minimum amount of time will be spent on the basic fundamentals of figure painting.
Every participant will receive a 75mm figure, produced by Pegaso Models, complete with a base made from Paduk. The figure will be a conversion by Andrea Jula of one of the subjects in the Pegaso Models catalogue and will be produced exclusively for the participants of the International Painting Workshop 2008. This figure will not be made commercially available.
This figure will be the subject of the demonstrations and practical applications. It must be noted that the figure will need to be prepared and ready for painting prior to the Workshop. The cleaning of the figure, including the removal of mould lines and flash, pinning and assembly, mounting the piece on an adequate support and priming the figure, will be the responsibility of each participant.
At the end of the Workshop, each participant will receive a certificate of participation.

Materials

Each participant needs to have the following items relevant to the class they have chosen, with them:

Oil painting class:

The procedure to pre-register for the course is simple: send an email to [email protected], with your name, surname and telephone number, specifying which class you wish to attend (either the oil painting or acrylic painting class) no later than 15th October 2008.
Given that there are limited spaces at the Workshop (a maximum of 15 places per class), the selection of participants will be made on a ‘first come first served’ basis and selection will be based on the time and date of receipt of the pre-registered emails.
After the 15th October 2008, and once the maximum number of participants has been reached, the selected participants will receive correspondence confirming instructions for the payment of the Workshop, as well as a form which needs to be completed and returned by 1st November 2008 (a copy of the bank credit transfer receipt must be sent via fax to fax number 0577 393470), with a confirmation of this payment via email. Once payment has been confirmed and received, the participant will be enrolled to participate in the Workshop.

After this date, the participant’s place is reserved and in the event of a withdrawal, it is important to note that the participant will NOT be refunded.

The participants will receive their figure and base to prepare (clean, assemble, mount and prime as per preceding instructions), in time for the start of the Workshop.

Looks great to me,
But it is a little to far and the cost's will be higher then € 1000,- i tink once finished.
So maybe next time, but it looks like a great opportunity to have instruction from the grandmasters themself like Piedro and Diego.
Excellent initiative, but i can't make it this year.

Is there any chance Pegaso might consider establishing a Masterclass world tour and bring the Masters to other parts of the planet, such as Australia???

It probably wont happen, but it's nice to dream.

Cheers

Uruk Hai , you can land in Rome and then move to Siena . Once you are interested , please use the suggested email for information, and Massimo Pasquali, along with Pietro Balloni will give you all the answers .

Acoomodation and food is included for all days , except the lunch that is optional and is along with a tour , that is up to everyone to decide if he will do it .
The packet is really nice and interesting, without adding the fact that you will be with friends and painting !! whats better than this ?

Well Im really considering this as the weather is probably much better in Italy at that time, I really want to get started with switching from Humbrols to Acrylics, I found out that theres a perfect flight for around 150:- € not to mention the italian food.

How far is it from Rome, this place?

Cheers

I don't see why this couldn't be done in the US or other countries. You'd just have to recruit a few talented painters to conduct the classes.

To get to Siena, one can fly to Rome or Florence. The train trip from Rome is a few hours, from Florence it is less than an hours drive if I remember corectly. Fantastic place to visit, loaded with history, THE BEST food and wine. Some wild boar or a Tuscan steak and a chianti - you will think you died and went to heaven.

You can drive to the incredible historic towns in the area, visit medieval churches with frescos like you cannot believe, and visit some of the friendliest hosts in the world.
1000 euro?? - a bargain.

I have already been 3-4 times in Sienna and the surounding territory, and i must confess that is a place that i would definately go tostay for the rest ofmy life. The natiral beauty of the area, the historical essence and everything else is simply perfect .

Not to mention that Pegaso always does the best for modellers, the guys teaching are definately included in the list of top masters, and meeting good friends is also important, so i dont think there is anything better than you can do !!!

I wish i ll see you all there

Best Regards
