Dear all, please have a look at my latest offering. This is a good kit and the kind of thing Pegaso were world beaters at for years. A pleasure to do. The shield is my second design as the initial one was a flop and I stripped it*. Any questions or comments are most welcome as always.
*I know they're not your cup of tea, Steve!

The shield is stunning, take nothing away from the rest of the figure which is equal to the shield. A beautiful piece and I wish I could paint even half as well.

Fantastic and the darker colours you have used give this piece a somewhat 'sinister' appearance. This is a tremendous figure and what a shame Pegaso appear to have moved away from the 'classics' to focus solely upon the fantasy stuff in recent times.

Great work and overall presentation.
Gary

The darker look is great, suits the figure and gives him a sense of fantasy which you play on with the excellent freehand shield design.

Thanks for the kind and thoughtful comments, guys. I do agree the black cloak etc lend a fantasy element. That was something I hadn't considered. Yes, mea culpa, I know the shield is stretching credibility a bit. Michaelangelo had to get inspiration somewhere, though, didn't he?... I just fancied a 'shock & awe' aspect to the figure.
The chequered band on the helmet was a real pig. That pattern took several goes, in fact. My takeaway from this figure is to persevere and be realistic about what I can do. I wish I could paint feathered plumes better. I'll keep trying. (y)

Hi BP

Good choice of Figure to work on , you've definitely added the fantasy angle with the cloak and helmet crest

All credit for the shield .....looks very interesting to do ......what was the first design you tried ?

The first draft was a contemporary depiction of the goddess Athena. Much less 'fantasy.' It was a total failure... I had to strip the shield back to the metal, re-prime and go again. This can often get me down. I came across this image and thought, "Mmm, go for it!" I think the failure actually emboldened me, as I knew I could always strip it again. I've found I've lost a bit of confidence in doing faces - hence I'm doing closed helmets!

Thanks for the kind compliments as always

It's just a really different well paint. And you know that shield steals the show. I like it.

Steve

Thanks Steve, much appreciated. I've always said that the shield can make or break an ancient figure. Recent proof of this is Viking Bob's recent work on that Celt - it's excellent.
