Hi All

Sometimes things can feel a bit sour on the web, as comments are misinterpreted and flame wars begin and die.

Got me thinking though. Just what I've learnt since this site's inception!! An incredible amount, that's for sure

Some highlights for me, in no particular order:
Gordy's SBS's and articles on just what can be acheived with milliput.
Gary's ever legendary SBS's (especially the weapons one ongoing right now)
Quang's most insightful posts on sculpting and anatomy (and humour)
Jason's wonderful vignettes, all done at an seemingly incredible rate.
Ander's prolific scratchbuilding and painting, and pure enthusiasm for this hobby
Guy's multiple projects and mountain men
Jaume's work, culminating in the face painting article; summed up acrylic painting more concisely than anything I've seen so far
Hardy's 're-birthing' of oil painting.
Alex's large scale fantasy work.
Lou's gold and silver SBS's.
Daniel's (jich0t) rapid learning curve.
(and countless other things, this list could go on and on, just can't remember them all)

EVERYONE'S willingness to share technique, experience and friendship.

Since this forum arrived on the scene, I've opened up oil paints again, started sculpting with stuff that doesn't cure in 3 hours, explored historical periods I never thought I cared about, and spent more time on here than I have at my bench!

Cheers Gordy (anfd the pF staffers), and to everyone.

Keep it coming!!

Rob

Hear, hear Rob. I think we (myself included) do get too carried away with trivial matters. I agree with all you said and would like to one thing.

THANK YOU to all for sending me emails, inspiring me to have fun again in this hobby, for reference material, new friendships, for it all! People from around the world helping each other with a common intrest.

Yes i've learned alot as well and have gotten to the point that this is my favorite site to hangout in.
I think my skills have improved alot since coming here by reading their articles and personal hints and tips from them, especially on eyes!my bust i'm working on actually has eye that look like eyes! lol (thanks Anders)
Though i still have a long way to go to equal some of the painting skills here i'm not trying to do that,i'm having fun painting figures at my own pace and will get better as i go.
By the way i tried to sculpt my first pack for a figure last night, took a blob of putty and a homemade tool and started scribing detail. Still looks like a blob of putty with lines scribed in!! ;) LOL

Thanks so much RobH! ;)

Kenneth, Jim Patrick (thanks again for the Spidey pics!)... and many more too!

So... let's stop typing! let's go painting! :D

I too have learned a tremendous amount on this site in all areas-painting, scultping groundwork-everything. It is a great place to visit daily (despite the BS) and a great place to share ideas we might normally not be able to. It also tears down the "I don't know him" walls that are sometimes present at shows.

I learn every day from the PF. You can ask someones opion (is that wrong ??) on what are you doing. Than you take it, and your painting get's better.
That's what it is all about. To get Better.

So Guys, Keep up the comments, SBS, Workbench etc. I have so much to learn.

Marc. ;)

RobH-

Thanks for making the post.

For me, it's all good and inspirational. For guys like me who finish maybe 4 figures a year I get more of a kick watching everyone else post their work.

Keith

Cheers, Rob, for a most uplifting post. (y)

I dunno if this place rocks but as far as I'm concerned, it's TWANG TIME! (while waiting for the bad vibes to clear up)

All the best,
Quang

Rob ,
Got to agree I have benefitted in all areas of figure painting/modelling
since you gave me the link to this site.

Long may we all continue to exchange views and raise the standard of the
sculpted/painted figure.

Absolutly Rob! I know I've made some friendships here that would never have been possible before, hopefuly I can follow these up in person one day.

Welcome back Quang! (y)

Count me in, boys. I've learned quite a bit from this site (even how to dig a deep foxhole in a matter of seconds  ). This is a good place to visit whenever possible to see what we're all up to. But to second Lou's posting, sites like these (including MedRom and TnT) break down the barriers and gives us the chance to get to know each other before going to shows.

Looking forward to meeting some of you guys in Chicago!

Pete has a date with a grass skirt the next time he goes to Tulsa  . I can't remember why though.

I also thought MFCA was on his dance card. I had the razor and permanent marker all ready for when he passed out too! Damn!

Sorry, hijacking this thread, it is April Fool's day as evidenced this morning.

Guy,
Tulsa: yes. MFCA: no.

John,
Why did you have to remind me of that?! The dance card now reads ...
Tulsa: no. MFCA: yes.

Lou,
Aaaaaaaaaaw CRAP! I do NOT want to "meet your leetle frehnd." So my dance card has been torn to shreds. Truth be told, there are two reasons why I've had to cancel MFCA at the last minute: outrageous airfare (it's up to $540 with a 3-hr. layover in the dryest state in the nation - Utah); interview for a tenure-track position on that weekend.

Hey Pete,

Yeah, we have weird liquor laws, but you can get plenty here if you want it. Matter of fact, from what I've heard, the liquor laws in most of Penn are even worse than here! I could direct you to a couple of watering holes for your layover :) .

Guys,it's great to see the friendliness present in the original site surfacing again  ;to be honest,I really missed it alot ! I'd like to echo what the others have said so far,and that is that this site has really helped me a great deal in terms of my modelling skills. For instance,I used to only build 1/35 scale resin WW II Germans;now,I've already scratchbuilt 5 Mohawks and 3 ACW figures(all based on paintings,no less !)My next project will probably be a metal Crimean war figure or another scratch-built ACW or WW I figure. So,to all the wonderful people on the "planet",thanks for encouraging me in my modelling ! Finally,a big HELLO to Quang;good to see you back,my friend (y) ! BTW,any comments on my latest projects in the workbench ? Cheers.
Kenneth :)

Yea.. That place inspired me to intensification sculpting and puts me into more difficult projects- like brad pitt from Troy:) And i'm studing Yours articles and learn .. still learn:) greetnezz to all:)

Nice Fenders Quang. So you play the guitar also. May i ask you, how long are you playing, what style ets.
I try to manage the guitar for a year now, but it is gone to slow.
How do you find the time, for sculpting, painting and playing.

Greetings Marc.

PS. Thank you for the sculpture you did for the AMSS. I become a member and the new members get one.
What a nice figure. Can I find info about this person somewhere, before i paint it.
