Hi John,
From what I can see you paint like a veteran, very nice work indeed and for 200mm that can expose flaws easily, your tones and transitions are spot on. The only point of critique would be to distress the holster and binoculars, they look a bit too new and clean. But that just may be the way the photo's are.
Very well done like it a lot.
cheers

Wrong thread I think John.
Looks very well done.
Some lovely details, the leather, helmet, and I love the groundwork too.

Wow! Some extremely professional painting here, especially after just 3 years of practice. The tones, detail, colours, shading and weathering are all at an extremely high degree of professionalism.
The only thing I would advise, and it maybe just the tone of the photo, is the bullets look more like a golden colour than a brass colour. Perhaps an oil based wash would subdue them a bit.
Also I think the gun could do with something. It looks just like a grey metallic paint which looks a bit grainy and again it may be just the photos but compared to the rest of the kit for me it doesn't look like the same ultra high standard. Sorry to sound critical but you did ask for honesty(y)

However, if I could paint this well after 30 years never mind 3, I'd still be dead chuffed!

Thanks for the advise and the comments guys, I will finish this in two weeks I guess I will post the final pics then,

John I like the overall look of this buddy, nice job ! Great achievement also in such a short space of painting time ... And in 1/9th scale which is not easy !

Offering constructive critique, for the me the MG42 needs some more work on the metal areas and also the wooden butt area needs working up some. The Kharkov parka carries the same light from top to bottom, try making the highlights towards the bottom of the parka darker than those up top,ie around the chest and shoulders. The upper half should be lighter than the lower taking into account the Zenithal lighting principal .... When highlighting try adding a light yellow or flesh colour in to this mix rather than straight white,it could be the images but it looks like there is a fair amount of white in there. Field grey lights up well with naples yellow or flesh, without de-saturating the colour, this will also give you a warm highlight. When shading try adding blue-black in to the mix, making these areas cooler in hue.

You can add filters at this stage to knock the whites back some and to darken the lower areas but you could also leave it as it is and maybe try working the above into your next piece. Either way your work here looks nice ! It's when you want that bit extra when you are ready to try improve further ...

The Brass ammo rounds would benefit from being toned down a bit also.

Still a great acheivment John !

Itching to paint mine now ...

Rgds

I love the level of contrast you work at even in this scale, which isn't easy and also the flesh areas ! Very nice : )

Very nice work and some excellent pointers from Carl.

I'd be happy with that result but just a few touches here and there like the stock, binos and holster, will give you ( and us) a stunning piece!

Hi John,

That really is nice work you posted and I think it is a step beyond your previous work. I think Carlos gave you some excellent remarks to further improve your work. The only minor and easy to do thing I would suggest additionally is to add some subtle, but very dark, shadows/outlining around the webbing and belt. Just to make them stand out a bit more.

Really nice paintjob!

Adrian

Ditto what the other folks said above. Remember that on the ammo the cartridge cases are brass and the projectiles copper. Nonetheless, you've done a bang up job (y)!
