I spotted this in the Megaro Ghyzi Museum in Fira, Santorini. I had to rely on my wife and her phone to get a pic but it looks uncannily like a Leliepvre painting to me, what do you think?

It is Number 7 in the guide, my translation reads, Unsigned. (XIX century) century) French school. hunting ? (scene?). Watercolor.

Hi Roger I can see why you may think this aquarelle is by
'Le Maitre'.

I have looked through over 400 of his illustrations and other pieces, and the more I looked the more I felt it possible.
Except...
His painting styles varied by subject.
the loosest form was reserved for 'Les elegantes' his portraits of ladies and dancers and they are almost diaphonous or ethereal use of washes.
Then the romantic softness of soldiers and ladies where the field is slightly softened but the sharp costume detail brings the figures into focus.
Finally the technical illustrations in paint pen and inks so much more focussed in recording detail they are a different item.

This painting seems far to 'loose' and indistinct to fall into any exact camp snd leads me to think
..'French School'...maybe a pupil influenced by his style? after all Benigni was a pupil of Detaille.

Have a look at these for those similarities and also all the signatures he used, although theres no signature in your photo.
Paul.
