Hi Mark

I know what you mean about Zulu being a classic, and I still lover to watch it, but I'd would like to see a more accurate account.
A friend at my club has visited Rorkes Drift and shown me some photos of the area, very different from those in the film.
Apart from inaccurate character representation too. Hook was a gentleman totally different to how he was portrayed in the film, and of course Bromhead was partially deaf which is why he was there in the first place, as he had trouble hearing orders to pass them on.
That's part of the reason why I'd like to see a remake on this one.

Malc

FWIW rather than remake, two words come to mind Pearl & Harbour. Just update the effects with some GCI as was done with some episodes of the Original Star Trek. Unless Peter Jackson does the remake, it may be long but it will be accurate.

How could you say that.......
Robin Hood Men in Tights, is a Classic.
But that is one movie that doesn't require a remake.

I stand corrected, I can't think of a Mel Brooks film that wasn't a classic(y), but when i think of John Derek, Barrie Ingham, Cornel Wilde:wtf: and June Lavericko_O I feel distinctly unwell:LOL:

I'd like to see some Napoleonics - not remakes of Waterloo or Austerlitz. I think it would be great to see some small group stories set in the period done like Saving Private Ryan. Delderfield's Seven Men of Gascony comes to mind. I recall reading a lot of different novels set in the Napoleonic period, the Crimea and the Indian Mutiny that all focused on individuals and small units. You could use CGI to simulate the larger battle scenes, hopefully avoiding Sharpe syndrome where you show 60 re-eneactors in a field and tell the audience that they are a French divisional column.

Another great topic - the Ogilvie novels set on the North West Frontier by McCutchan.

Aand of course someone really needs to start over and properly remake the Flashman novels.

Quite a list there, your suggestions would make some great movies.
For ACW fans there is a new film coming out next year. Free State of Jones.

Malc

There was once a CGI movie of George Macdonald Fraser's "the Pyrates" that could stand a remake, and for ACW fans "The Red Badge of Courage" really needs one, but if anyone has a serious go at the Flashman Books--------- YEEAaaaahhhoooooo !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Sorry for being so emotional:inpain::happy:.
Best wishes, Gary.

Whether its a weather balloon or not I don't know, but I have heard Johnny Depp is lined up to appear.!!!!!
But of course he's busy filming "Pirates of the Carribean 5" shiver me timbers and all that. Love it.

You surprise me, if you like a bit of swash & buckle, or buckle & swash, you can't go wrong with Captn Jack. Some great stunts and a good laugh.
Not to mention Keira Knightly.......and Penelope Cruz....... dammit time for a cold shower.

On a more serious note, does anyone else think "Master & Commander" should have had a sequel?

Yes but too late now. Russell has passed the old and fat line.

Russell started an online campaign a few years ago to petition the studio but it went nowhere. As far as the way he looks, anything possible in Hollywood.:singing:

If, in the world according to the movies, a fat old man can jump a five bar gate (admittedly with the assistance of a horse), a welsh valley can pass for the Khyber Pass, Russel Crowe can do anything he likes, just tell him he'll be playing Aggamemnon.
