Or will it be an apologia, in which the audience is drawn to sympathize with the crew of the Bismarck as they go to their fate? Yamato was like that. Even in Das Boot, which was an excellent movie (and a good novel, too), I kept having to tell myself, "If they hadn't started it, they wouldn't be dying right now..."

Prost!

Hi Wayne
I do like Mel in some of his movies, I just don't think he'd be the man for a Sequel to Master & Commander.
No the photo isn't Mel, he's someone more famous. LOL

Seriously impressed Malc, starring in Captain Jack's selfie(y), I'm gonna have to watch those movies. To go off thread for a moment, anyone interested in Pirates should read "Spanish Gold" and "Under the Black Flag" by David Cordingly.

Wayne, I'm not quite sure Mel Gibson would be any good for Master and Commander, I don't think he's tall enough to reach the rigging:LOL:
Best wishes, Gary.

Hi Gary, Thanks for the tip on the books I'll be reading for sure, Aha, Aha splice the main brace.
Sorry just getting some practice,

...On a more serious note, does anyone else think "Master & Commander" should have had a sequel?

Malc

Yes, I agree with you. There are more books in the series, aren't there?

I thought it was well done. The screenplay was good, as was the casting and the performances, in my opinion. And the sets, costumes and special effects, all very good. I've always been disappointed that there hasn't been another from the series.

On a tangent but related, I enjoyed the "Hornblower" series with Ion Gryffudd, for the same reasons.

Prost!

Hi Brad
The sets and costumes were very good, in fact some of the belt buckles and badges were originals, which the director purchased from a military antique shop called "Blunderbus" which was around the corner from where I work. Sadly its no longer there.
To me the film begged for a sequel, but as we all know it won't happen.
As for "Hornblower" I've got the series on DVD, enjoyable ,but not quite the same.
Still someone could do the " Battle of Trafalgar" that would be great.
