Could anybody tell me the colour of the cord barrels on the sash. Poste Mil. states they are blue and white but with no description as to what pattern.----Do they alternate blue and white vertically, blue and white flecks, etc. etc. I would be extremely grateful for any help in this matter. p.s. I forgot to say 13th hussar trooper Jerome Napoleon 1813-1814 :(

Hi Peter, and welcome to the planet.....it's very likely that the skeins of wool that make up the sash are of blue wool, and the smooth barrels white. Depending on how the barrels are arranged on the sash they would make either a vertically alligned pattern or an alternate pattern were the barrels would be arranged purposely to make an attractive checkerboard pattern. It all depends how this has been reproduced by PM on their kit.

Sorry the colours don't relate to the 13th, but at least you'll see the arrangement of the barrels clearly.

All the best..

Roy.

Peter,

Being Jerome Napoleon regiment, are you painting them with red dolman and blue pelisse and red shako as per his Guard? Or are you doing them as the actual 13th formed in the Italian department in early 1813 who, after the Leipzig campaign, were incorporated into the 14th? The reason I ask is that their uniform was completely different.

If it is JN's, taking the example posted by Roy, you see the red? It would be about 4" wide (in scale) then about 1" of white, 2" of blue, 1" of white, 4" of red, then repeating.

The barrel sash was, by regulation, red with the alternating color that of the lace, i.e. white or yellow. But JN’s used the one previously.

So, to answer your original question, it would have been vertical. :)

Thanks a lot for your help guys. Now I can get down to some painting. P.S. the figure is J.N.1813-1814 with scarlet sash with blue and white barrels. :)
