Hi Guys ,

As I have said this is for me , I have spent the last hour or so surrounded by my references about the way the details have been sculpted .

most of mine show the crossbelt under the epaulette irrespective of rankView attachment 126057

so Moz is correct ........ but also shown as being worn over !!!!!

The tall fur cap in the last one was introduced in 1821 and worn at the coronation of George IV in that year. It did not replace the helmet but provided an alternative. The sabretache was short-lived in the Household Cavalry and disappeared towarrds the end of the 1820s. The embroidered shabraque had pointed corners for the 1st regiment and rounded corners for the 2nd Life Guards.

.......but for the life of me I cannot find anything with the cuirass securing strap over the epaulette .on this side ..this is of course not to say that it was not worn like this over the shoulder ....have a look at the other side in the pics its being worn over another area Moz is spot on with !!!

...my thoughts are that the wear from the support would be heavy ....and these were expensive pieces of uniform.

It would be possible to rework this but that is up to the individual for me I will wait till I have stopped drooling when I have it in my hands .

Here are some pics I have been looking at ...not all I hasten to add!!!

I'm sorry if I did'nt make myself clear, I do not question whether the cross belt should be worn over or under the epaulette. Although the wearer would find that the belt slipped and the box would be under the right armpit within ten minutes, if it was not secured by the epuallette securing tab!
What I was questioning was the cross belt being worn under the left cuirass strap. The way the iuniform is put on is,kit shirt and buckskins (with braces) then tunic with epualletts fixed, the the back plate is put on with the shoulder scales slid through the epualletts, the front plate is then attached to the shoulder scales and the waist strap is fastened. THEN the cross belt is pushed from front to back, under the left epuallette but above the shoulder scale, and the box is fastened at the back (the box straps can be adjusted to allow for whether the cuirass is worn or not.)
By the way the Household Cavalry museum is no long in Combermere barracks, it was moved to Horse Guards Parade a few years ago.(visitors didn't like to walk past an armed guard!)
If you're wondering wether to believe me, look at my avatar. That's a young me, so make your own mind up.:)
I won't mention that you showed "Dinks" when talking about "Tins"

I've just dug out the earlier sculpt by Moz of a Lifeguard Officer, 1832. That one depicts the cross belt over the cuirass scales and over the epaulette.

Some officers cross belts worn with and without cuirasses. Gold in the presence of Her Majesty, white all other times. Along with the only belt that can't be worn under the epuallette The Standard Belt, this is worn over the cross belt.

All the historical image sources posted by Nap show the belt going over the shoulder scales, only proving Martins point even more.
Nice bust though, guess Moz didn't want to cover all the work he'd done detailing the scales!
Cheers

Martin must be right, I have the same pics and all show the crossbelt passing over the shoulder scales so I`m gonna change it, the epaulettes on this original uniform have laces and are actually a façade of the whole epaulette in so far as the ends are laced to the coatee under the cuirass so I think that's correct, I can only presume the guy that put the original cuirrass together put the cross belt on incorrectly. Its an easy fix.
Cheers everyone
Moz

We all make them mate:). I don't know how the uniform was assembled that way in the first place. Wheres the picture from? It looks like a Blues' cuirass (the studs) that explains a lot;)!
Still a great figure of an even greater subject:)

Beautiful figure and the historic period that has been sorely underrepresented. Hope for more (and can't wait until this becomes available for purchase).

Irrelevant of details, this is a good video for showing the household division

My smilies not working either

Good night by the looks of it

Nice one Graham...I remember My Ol Dad telling me that when he was a Grenadier in the 50's if you didn't come to attention for the dust men at Buckingham palace they used to throw S**t at you ...another was an American tourist said to his girlfriend that he could make a Grenadier walk round him, as he stepped into the Guardsmans path he presented arms and busted the yanks jaw...LOL

It was more fun in the days before everyone had a video camera. Especially first rehersal for QBP. 03.00 down to the stables, so you drag yourself in from Stringfellows at 02.00
I dozed off while the foot guards were doing there thing. Unfortunatly I was spotted by the Riding Master, so when we got back I had half an hour of extra riding school. "At the canter touch your left toe with your right hand" "Mount, dismount, Mount, dismount. You get the idea!

Here's a figure for someone to make

Second relief. The first relief don't have time to change from mounted review order into front yard order. That's why the trooper in the "chicks" (Sentry Over the Arms, notice carbine rack)is still wearing his cuirass.
