For this next project i'm entering into a period of war I've not modeled in before, however I've been busy doing my research as I like to do with all my projects.
This latest piece of mine will depict Private Perry of the 24th regt foot during the withdrawel from Chillianwallah in January 1849.
The battle of Chillianwallah took place on 13th January 1849 during the second sikh war.
The 24th took heavy casualties during the assault on a strong sikh position, however the sikh army were able to re-take the position after reinforcments with the 24th having to make an orderly withdrawel from the position.
Private Perry during this action rescued the regimental colour, this busts depicts private Perry carrying the colour over his left shoulder during the withdrawel minus the staff which was probably broken off during the conflict.
Bill Horan did an excellent diorama depicting the 24ths withdrawel through the swamp many years ago and was an inspiration for this bust.
The piece has been sculpted by Carl Reid and is produced by MJ miniatures in 1/10th scale.
The kit comes in 6x resin parts and the fit of parts is excellent with hardly any filler required, however one criticism I do have is the musket in my kit was badly warped / bent,so after some heat treatment I was able to restraighten the part, however don't let this small issue put you off the kit,the piece is beautifully sculpted by carl and one I cant wait to start painting.
As many of you who know me personaly will know,i plan to work on a back drop for this piece, which i'm currently working on now.
