I have started to paint two new figures and in normal cases I would show them here during the next days. But I have a problem with one of them. I use as primer for that two busts the same colour from gunze out of the same pot and I use an airbrush for that.
It is an bust from Roy Hunt and the "Little red riding hood" from Ken. Painting the bust from Roy everything is ok and 90 % of the painted areas from Ken´s figure too, but ..... the problem are the 10 %. I use oil and a "dry oven" And after two days in the oven some parts are not dry and they are shiny. It depends different colours and different parts of the figure. And if I touch the part they feels a little bit sticky.
Someone an idea what happens??
I will take tomorrow or on Friday some photos and will show them here, but I fear I must use some dishing machine tabs and start again

I can be a number of factors.

  • oils from finger prints
  • moisture from the airbrush
  • oil from the compressor
  • weeping resin
A precaution would be to wipe down the piece before hand with denatured alchohol. DA is very different from rubbing alcohol (found in most medicine cabinets)

DA won't harm any plastics or resins, airplane builders even use it to clean clear canopy parts.

DA also works as a great acrylic paint cleaner on dried brushes.

It works similar to lacquer thinner but will not harm or soften plastics.

Hope that helps!

Not that they would admit!

Dependent on the vintage of the thinner, it adds a new dimension to the creative experience!

Thanks. I know that it would be diffidult to help without seeing the figure in flesh.
@ Gordy: No oil in the compressor and I handle the figure as all my others. But I will try it by my new figure with the DA. So if tomorrow the colours are not dry I will give the bust a meeting with a dishing machine tab and start again. But before Iwill make some photos.
@ Einion: You are right. I try it, because I have start with acrylics, one time to lick the brush after cleaning.:dead: Never again. But I know someone who like it :wtf:

Hi Ulrich I hope this isn't a problem with the castings as I've had no complaints in the past but if anyone has experienced the same problem then please let me know.
Looking forward to seeing your version of L.R.R.H and you didn't say which one of Roy's busts you had chosen.

Cheers Ken

Ken. I don´t think it is your figure. I fear something happened during priming. Today nothing has changed and after taking the photos tomorrow "she" will take a bath :D
I don´t know how the bust is calling and I am not sure if "he" is from Roy, but I think so. Please wait until tomorrow and then you can see "him"

Ok. Here are the photos. The areas are here lips, the skin under the lips and the parts over the ears and the red part under the chin. I hope you can see that the other parts look different.

The other photos are from the bust of Roy (I hope so). If someone can confirm my thoughts that would be helpful. As you can see many things are to do before the bust is finished. As I have bought it I had the idea to use it as a dummy and make a new bust but after sometimes I thought it would be a great bust as it is
