Hello everyone,

here are some pics of my current sculpting project. My third scratch figure will be a Prussian infantry man standing on a ladder after the canvas "Le Bourget" by DeNeuville. Hope you like the beginnings. Comments and criticism are welcome.

Best wishes

Mark

hi mark
i'm so happy to see a project around the works of Alphonse Deneuville.
Can't wait to see the progression of your figure but i think that the start is really good.
Thanks for sharing

Seb.

Mark, The figure looks to be well proportioned. The only thing about the piece that looks odd is the tubular construction of the sides of the ladder.~Gary

Hello Sebastien, Jason and Gary,

thanks for your kind words.
Gary: the problem is how to fix the figure properly to the ladder, therefore up to now the tube seemed the most suitable solution to me. I'm still right at the beginning, what would you suppose instead. Do you think it might look better to cover the ladder construction with putty and ad a slight wood structure?

Mark, If the sides of the ladder were basswood you could have the "pin" portion of the armature of his left arm go right into the wood and build the hand around it. I agree that you've done a fine jb of posing the figure. The comments on the ladder are really a minor issue, so don't let this slow down your progress on the figure.~Gary

Hi Mark

very nice start to this piece, pose is good, its good to see a little more thought going into figure modelling, adding that little bit of area around the figure, instead of just groundwork, lots more involved in this that way, more to grab the eye.......

Great
