So here is my first major conversion, tackled ala Calvin Tan starting from Dragon german figure, a hornet head detailed with magic sculpt ... the dragon figure used was torso and legs to take proportion and off with magic sculpt ... painting is in the beginning, oils as my usual system ... so please do not be hard consider this is my first effort so your hints and critisism would be an asset for future projects!

Ivan,
I like the way this little guy turned out! I think your conversion is nice. Great character. My only thought would be to the hair. It loks like the highlights on the beard are a bit harsh, but over all he looks good!

Thanks guys for the comments ... Jay I take your point I tried to do a salt and pepper hairstyle but in 1/35 the transition is very tough and ended like a harsh drybrush ggod point ...

Dan thanks for your help, infact I left those out to do them as paint job, these are to tiny for me to make them out of putty ... what I notice from my referances are that the 'horn' on the red patch is gold ... and the epulettes are silver with gold trimming any ideas?

Only one. If you don't have a really good magnifying glass, you'd probably better invest in one. :) I'm not a painter!

Well actually one suggestion. I think even in 1/35th I'd try to sculpt the collar patch and sleeve whatever they are. Obviously you couldn't get them thin enough to be in scale, but I just think they'd look better than just painting them. Take this with a grain or two of salt 'cos I confess I've never worked in that scale.

Good luck and let us see the final result!

All the best,
Dan

Hola Ivan,

I think that youve done a great job with your first conversion.

The only thing thats a bit off in my eyes are the shoulder straps, they seam a bit too large and out of scale. No biggie though.

As for the patches, if you dont feel comfortable with sculpting the details, maybe just sculpt the outline of the patch and paint in the rest? Im talking about making the patch flat instead of detailed. Its worth a try, if it dont work, all you have to do take it off before it cures and all you 'lost' was some time and gained some great experience.

Hi Anders

Thanks for the tips, infcat that was the way I am working right know for this one ... I would not like to go into much experiments as would like to get it ready ... so hopefully I'll be able to show it to you in the flesh today week ;) but hopefully we mange to recognize each other first

Of to do some more work ... this project was started 2 years agao, and shelved for pretty some months then it loomed again that I have our officer waiting inpatiently to be finished ... so lets get him ready

See you soon ... are you bringing some stuff with you from your works or just visiting?
