"Cloth-like" texture?

I tried something, new for me but perhaps not for many or most of you. And the result is not up to the James Rice standard of depicting cloth but I'd like to think of the result as maybe "cloth-like" as opposed to Mr. Rice's "cloth".

Using AK ww1 German Army Paints I blended AK3091 Base and AK3092 Light approximately 2:1 light to base to create a new base color which I applied to the entire jacket. I then made a very thin wash of both AK3091 and 3092 and began applying coat after coat of each, eyeballing the high and low spots until they began to shade the jacket in a realistic manner. I'm not sure of how many coats I applied, many, and I may go back and apply some more especially around the collar.

The result? I'd like to hear your opinions and suggestions.

Oh yeah, the collar is Prussian Blue but it's wayyyyy too strong to be cloth. I'll be greying that down some.

Hi Rick

Good update , cloth like indeed , I think you might push the textures more on the highs possibly by tiny lines

Agree ref colour on collar , no doubt once greying down will bring it back to right

I would highlight the red piping as well

Thanks for colour mixes as well ...very useful

Happy benchtime

Thanks for the input, Nap. Agree with you on the red piping. A very thin dark line on each side of the piping will make the red pop. Not sure what you mean by adding the tiny lines to the highs.
