I am in the process of constructing a 90mm horse from a metal figure kit. Unlike past purchases the seams seem to be off which will require some major putty work. In the past i have just gone up to the walmart picked up some putty and having worked it as I wished i had to do some baking. Because, of the excessive cost of this kit I do not wish to try that and cause more problems. So what I am seeking is a recommendation for a putty that you can work on for a period of time say the evening and then when set down will dry overnight to a material that can be sanded.
My question is; What do you recommend that will do the job i seek?
Also, since i live no where close to a supplier can someone recommend a east coast US supplier for the reommended putty or item from whom i can make a purchase.

Thank you in advance for any assist from those more knowledgable of this subject than I.

William, A couple of putties that come to mind are either A & B epoxy putty or Aves Apoxie Sculpt. While there are others, these both take to sanding well.~Gary

I agree with Gary on Apoxie and A&B. I also have used and like Magic Sculpt. Not sure which I like the best, though I am leaning toward Apoxie right now.

I order direct myself

Apoxie http://www.avesstudio.com/Products/Apoxie_Sculpt/apoxie_sculpt.html

Magic Sulpt

A&B -- I buy at a local Appliance Parts Store OR EBAY OR

William,
All the putties so far recommended can be ordered over the internet.

A+B is also available from http://www.calrepcoinc.com/howto.html

Aves is a good choice and can be had @ http://www.avesstudio.com/Products/Apoxie_Sculpt/apoxie_sculpt.html

Magic sculpt I get from http://www.coloradominiatures.com/

For the rest (green stuff etc.) a quick Google search will render many useful links.

My favorite for the kind of application you intend would be A+B putty, not because it is necessarily the best, but rather because I am used to it. First I'd scratch/score the area where putty is to be applied, wash the whole casting carefully then apply the putty. You can roll the stuff on and feather with Acetone, spit, or some other appropriate solvent, or put it on rough and sand and file smooth later. These same procedures apply to all the above putties, but I don't know exactly how to handle green stuff, does it file or sand, I don't know.

The only putty I've used is Magic Sculp. The working time for that is about 2 hours and it hardens more overnight (and no baking). Good luck with the project. :)

Cheers,
Wendy

To those that responded thank you very much as you have given me several good ideas to persue. Along these lines i have tracked down a distributor in lynchburg Va. I will be making an order so as to proceed with my figure. Again thank you.
