Thank you all for the kind words and support and the great reference material... That's what makes this such a great forum!!!!

The paint work is suspended while I work out his little plot of New England... Yes there is a tree... My first shot at scratch building one from wire and putty. Eek!

Terry, I've done a number of FeR's pieces and all including this one have been a joy! Great sculpts, near perfect casting, almost flawless fit... There's not a lick of putty at the shoulder joints and the left hand all but snaps onto the wrist post. Can't really ask for more. Well maybe some Napoleonics or War of 1812 subjects (hint hint Fernando)

Update probably tomorrow

Colin, Thanks for your review of the FER Kit. That is exactly what I was wanting to know. Appreciate it greatly!

Update...
Did up a tree out of twisted wire and Magic Sculpt. First attempt at this... don't laugh  I tried to put a couple of bullet strikes in the tree for interest sake.

With the figure in place...

Hence the sideways glance :cautious: :sneaky: ;)

Comments, critiques and helpful hints are most welcome

Thanks guys , I was thinking of doing the tree as a Silver or Norwegian Maple that absolutely infest the area... there is in fact one in front and one behind my house. Very flat bark with a vertical line grain. Sort of grey ish with a hint of green (seems like a good mix next to the uniform). I scribed the bark pattern and hopefully I can get it to stand out with painting. .. Lots of washes and strong highlighting... otherwise it'll be another layer of putty and deeper scribing.

Thanks again for the support and advice

Colin
