Anyone seen a picture of it painted, just for an idea of what I would be letting myself in for..... Love the length of that weapon.....

Yeah you're right Graham ,that is a nice looking piece. You might have to tack another inch plus on your cabinet,or display as shown...........Regards,....Wayne(y)

Trouble as I see it will be the musket. I have seen some amazingly realistic muskets and rifles painted on PF with truly impressive wood and metal effects. Not sure if I would be able to replicate this on such a prominent feature of the bust.

Marc, I would love to see one in the flesh. Will have to check our local museum to see what they have. As an aside, Peterborough a Museum has some spectacular carvings done by French POW's from the Napleonic Wars when housed at nearby Norman Cross. A memorial exists near the site of the prison, picture below (c) Richard Croft

Wayne, it would certainly need careful display. I can just imagine slamming the cabinet door and seeing the musket disintegrate ;)

Graham - don't let all those show offs who paint in the wood grain put you off. I have seen plenty of period long arms with dark varnish and no visible grain.

It's the old scale argument anyway. At this scale, in reality, no grain would be really visible but let's be honest, it looks cool when done well. Not a brilliant moulding but I do have a musket to do for the MiniArt 1/16 figure so at least I will have something to try it out on.

Really surprised I cannot find one painted!

My lazy method is to paint the wood area with the base colour that you want (enamels or acrylics). Once the paint is set I paint over in a darker oil paint, take most of it off and then run an old dry brush through the oil coat. That way you can create whatever grain pattern suits you. Try it out on some waste plastic.
As an alternative, and probably a much better method:-
When I asked Brian (Smudger1960) how he painted wood, he referred me to his V-Bench and his post titled Bill Sikes. It's a very good read.
I've now got it bookmarked.

Just saw one on facebook. But I dont want to scoop a non members pic and post it. Look for Paul Lawday post to military figure painters asociation.

Dear Graham,
There is a painted version here by Paul, this has the covered shako but 2 heads are provided in the kit.

The figure also comes with painting instructions, as you mention we too have not seen many painted versions although Graham hopes to paint this one in the future.
Please message if we can help in any way and thank you for all your support of CGS
