Red Hair (oils)

I just started French Musketeer from united empire, and I can only see him with stark red hair. Problem is, I have never painted red hair in oils. All ideas would be appreciated.

Welcome to the planet.
I only did one red haired figure. I've got good results with burnt umber, and highlight with burnt sienna.

Red hair is even harder than blonde! And so MANY types of red hair, too!

Never tried red hair (oils or otherwise) but have thought about it some... Got a Celt in queue somewhere... :lol:

I am a bit stumped over what acrylic base to do the oil over?

But, for the oils how about Cad Red light with some Mars red? Highlight with a Cad yellow deep and touch of base? Shadow with Burnt Sienna?
Too flaming red?

Let me know what you try. Always interested in oil hair mixes!

I'm doing a red haired knight at the moment, but it's all acrylics. i started with orange brown though. I added sunny skintone and Ice yellow to highlight and burnt umber and later black to shade.

I hope this helps at least a little. Please keep us informed what colours you use and what the result is.
