I do like how the trumpeter is coming along, good attention to detail which is not the easiest at that scale.
Have a good one
Melanie
Cheers Melanie, I like this scale for one it's bigger than 1/35th, just! And two anything bigger would be too big for me, the few larger figures I have done were fun but the size just feels uncomfortable for me. So I need to hope my eye sight lasts and keep having the eye injections, just the thought makes my toes curl!

Cheers Simon

Lovely work Simon, great to see this coming along. Inspirational as always...

You are correct, only the Brits held both reins. The French cavalry only held the bit rein, you can clearly see this in contemporary prints. Bryan Fosten famously got this wrong in one of the Historex catalogues and M. Leliepvre had to add a correction.....
Many thanks Nigel, I'm having an issue with his right arm, the upper arm looks too long. The measurements are right, I think it is that his shoulder is slightly forward and his wrist is bent making the forearm look short. I'm hoping not to have to build a new one.

Cheers Simon

For the purposes of naming fingers: index, middle, ring and little avoids any confusion. Using numbers in the hand can lead to confusion.

Mike
Hi Mike, to be honest the whole kit and caboodle of horse tack confuses me. Not that confusing me is hard. As I mentioned Figure in Italy do a set of 1/30th hands with the left holding reins like in the picture, I need to order some more. It's help like this that makes PF such a great place to be.

Happy birthday Simon, I certainly wish it to you late but very discreetly as you like.... and congratulations on the progress of your project, it's just great to follow.
Thank you Bran, at 60 my intention is to ignore all future birthdays, being the same age as old people is somewhat disconcerting!

Cheers Simon

I wasn't happy with his right arm, the upper arm seemed too long even though the measurements seemed to be ok. So off it came and now he has a nice new prosthetic arm, amazing what can be done with a paperclip!

Anyway it looks better, just shows what a millilitre or two can do in this scale.

Looking good Simon.
I don't want teach Grandma to suck eggs, but having done a lot of this stuff here's my two-penn'orth...
The danger with armature wires is that you place the elbow in what looks like the right place, but then you bulk it out with putty and consequently the upper arm gets longer again. In reality our elbow is only covered by a few layers of skin, so you will need to make sure the wire is almost visible.
I'm enjoying this and looking forward to pushing a bit of putty myself, but I've got a lot of warship to build....

Many thanks for the lesson Neil, always keen to learn. I can generally fettle an arm around the wire by building up one side more than the other. This time though I must have put the elbow bend in wrong, but a quick twist and pull and the error is gone and I can do it right next time. If I got it right first time every time it wouldn't be as much fun😁

Damned great advice. I also made the same mistake with some of my bent arm armatures. Thanks. Rgds Victor

Looking good, I can't wait to see the finished article. I have had to shelf the idea of my drummer it is just too much for my shaky hands and fading eyesight, i'll keep it to the same period but a different rank.

Victor, David & Malkie, thanks gents all back on track now, hopefully I'll flesh the arm out today.

Malkie, nothing wrong with keeping it simple, it's about enjoying the process not getting stressed. There are so many I'd love to do but the complexity would be too much.

Cheers Simon
