WIP Critique Red Lancer- Part II

Hey again,
The Red Lancer project continues...
The rider is 95% complete, just sword/scabbard, lance and stirrups. Started in on the horse now. Just a base coat on the horse and saddle blanket. The horse's tack will be a nightmare, not only is it quite complex, most of the head tack has a red 'wolf's tooth' border on it.
Back at it tonight!

Gonna stick with the dark bay... makes the reds and the golds in the saddle cloth really stand out, I think.

Colin, my major critique would be your uniform looks real flat. It looks like one color of red in my opinion. I think a lot of it has to do with your photography which most of us suffer from. You need to set your WB to custom first and then photograph your figure so you can use your editing software to tidy it up and show more of the actual coloring

I've been fooling with the lighting a little and I think I made it worse (kinda yellow). I haven't tried editing at all... that might help. I'll try a couple of things.

Yes I can see better. . . it has some shading and highlight, but in my opinion and if I were doing it I would paint with a little more light on the upper parts, shoulders for instance. . . But hey! it's my opinion. And I don't have experience on napoleonics.... just my taste
And maybe the red could have more work on in... but maybe the camera doesn't do justice.

Colin,there is one pic that i can really see the contrast,i really like the way it look.
I think that you have done an amaing job on the blue,also the red,but the blue is great!.
The braid looks fantastic,i can see that you spent a great deal of time on it

Hey there CJ...I think the face on this figure is excellent, and the horse is looking great...why not try shooting your pics by a window in natural light? I can't get mine right under lights to save my life but I find natural light works much better.
This one's going to be stunning when you're done

The horse just has a base coat on it so far... I will be starting the highs and shades on it this weekend. Question Mary... as you know your horses, you probably have a good idea. On the horses coat (excluding light effects) is the colour lighter on the bottom and darker on top or darker on the bottom and lighter on top? I've heard both ways but one must be "more right".
I'll try the daylight photography this week end

Nice progress, Colin.
Before you are shooting in daylight, set the camera white balance. Take a white paper and focus the camera on it. Find in the menu the white balance and select. Everything in daylight. It will help.
