Thanks Marijn :) See you soon in Darlington.

Rafa, its just gold acrylic shaded with sepia and lamp black.

Excation, its yellow ochre.

What else can I say? It's amazing.

Hardy, you are the best oil painter nowadays. I have just one question: All the highlights/shadows applied wet on wet or the second and final highlights/shadows applied wet on dry?

Best wishes

Béla

Just a little update on my progress. Have started doing the leather, as its a study in blue its taking ages. The face is now finished, added some lower teeth and am going to yellow them when dry. You can see more images on my website www.hardytempest.moonfruit.com

Thanks all.
Hi Ernest, there is some evidence that sea born Roman troops wore blue. There is quite an interesting thread over on medrom on dyeing leather (based on this very figure), and by my understanding it is indeed very possible. If it actually happened with this particular soldiers unit is unknown, so as usual its down to how much artistic input you are comfortable with.

Very ssssssssssssssssslllllllllllllllllllllllllllooooooooooooooooowwwwwwwww progress again as I have been busy with the real world, but plodding on. Once the flesh is done I can add the dirt!! As usual more images on my website www.hardytempest.moonfruit.com
