Hi guys,

As you can see, I've already made a fair bit of progress on my next project. This is a wonderful little bust that I just had to have. He never made it into the Grey Army - straight from arriving in the mail to on the workbench.:D

The toga remains a work in progress. I laid in the shadows last night and will now start to blend in some highlights and mid-tones. The last step will be to add the distinctive Tyrian purple stripe that denotes the toga praetexta worn by Senators in Imperial Rome.

As a reference for painting, I've been using Patrick Stewart in his role as Captain Jan Luc Picard on Star Trek The Next generation. You might see a resemblance ;)

Hi Jason, thanks for your comments. The blocking in of the shadows and highlights is an ugly but necessary steps towards achieving the right degree of contrast. Especially in a very light colour. Hopefully the update pic below will show that the process was worth the effort.

Hi Tony, thanks so much. I'm happy with the face and head so far. I haven't done any oil painting on it yet, so there's more to come before I'm finished with the face.

Hi Marc, thanks again mate. Hopefully you'll like my latest WIP below.

Hi Chris, you made me laugh when I read that. I wish it was that simple mate.

Hi Gordon, thanks mate. I appreciate your comment.

Hi John, thanks mate. I hope you do buy this figure. I'm sure you'll enjoy painting it.

Hi Scott, thankyou for your comment. Here's the update pic of the bust.

My focus at the moment is on getting the highlighting and shading on the toga correct. Another couple of sessions and it should be OK.

Hi Tony!

Lovelly result untill now, can't wait to see your next steps. A small mistake in the title, I think that's a bust produced by Heroes and Villains, when Fernando Ruiz Ceano was involved in that project. Very good historical serie, their Anglo-Norman crusader too, Hamlet or German Barbarian also great pieces.
Cheers,
Nicolae

Thanks Keith. I appreciate your comments mate.:)

Hi Nicolae, yes, its H & V not FeR Miniatures. Thanks for setting me straight and for your comments.

Here are the final pics of the Senator.(y) My wife has taken to calling him "Biggus Dickus" but I think I'll resist calling him that.

Thanks to everyone who commented on this WIP thread.;)

Hi Chris, thanks mate. Painting white is relatively easy compared to some colours. The secret is to not use white paint. I use 50 shades of grey.;)

Hi Tony, thankyou. Your comment is greatly appreciated.:D

Hi Nicolae, thanks for your generous comments. I'm so glad you liked it.:)

Hi Keith, thanks mate. The toga was a great challenge. It's literally 50 shades of grey with only the highest highlights in pure Titanium White. (y)

This bust is fantastic (I know sooner or later I'll be acquiring him for myself), and your interpretation and paint job is just first rate! Lovely (y)

Regards,
Phil
