hi everyone...

i have started to return to this sculpt which i started a while ago.

its of one of the female russian snipers from the great patriotic war

Roza Shanina

1924 - 1945

died in combat.

i was drawn to this from this photograph

and i am attempting to model this moment... i'm fairly sure its from her second attendance at the sniper school, about 1944 but not sure

anyway it was her smile!

HI Mark,

That's a great subject you've chosen to sculpt mate. I wish you good luck with it and hope you will show us more progress pics as you go along.

From my observations I did pick up a couple of things. Firstly, I think the nostrils are a bit flared, and need to be reduced. Also the mouth looks a bit narrow. It could be widened a bit and more volume added to the lips.

Keep up the good work.

Sniper

Mark ,
Nice idea , and what a brave woman , I agree about the smile , it draws you to the picture and certainly inspirational , what scale is this , look forward to future posts and the painting , let us know your flesh mixes .

Mark,

Interesting subject for a bust!

Study the eyes in your source photo. When a person smiles, the lower eye lids tend to be forced into a slightly upward curve by the cheek muscles which retract to pull the corners of the mouth upward for the smile.

Also, and it might be the angle of the picture, but the eyes are usually the midway point on the face between the chin and top of the head. It looks like she might need more volume added to the top of the head.

Keep posting your progress! Good luck.

Matt

thanks tony, i'm not happy with nose or width of smile either :)

yeah she was a looker! she is 1/6th scale, however she was quite short 1.6m and the gun she used was 1.304m, a Mosin-Nagant i believe

lol

Great start mark,
waiting for your next step.
thanks Marcel, she is a back burner so slow WIP :)

Snipers....the most feared and hated soldiers on the battlefield.
The smile of death.

agreed, but great for propoganda if they work for your side :)

cheers Matt

yes the eyes still not right and i'm going to leave the head until i have the body bulked out more as her hair is quite loose in most pictures of her, with the smile it should set this piece off well

again thanks for the input everyone

this is only really my 4th or 5th attempt at sculpting and i have only ever finished one...

LOL

onwards and upwards
