Hi guys,
just some pics of my latest bust, still in need of a little tidying here and there, but complete nonethelesss! Peak of cap and neck joint fit much better than on photos due again to blutack holding all together. Scale approx 200mm.
hope you like it!

Hi Steve!

A wonderful work to which I heartily congratulate you! Especially the face is very well done! And the monogram of Tsar Nikolaj II. at the base is a fantastic idea.

Cheers

Martin,
many thanks for your comments, especially the details. I have based the bust on illustrations in the Osprey book The Russo-Japanese War, 1904-05. In the text the author says, "..The 'gimnasterka' had two front buttons, one at the neck and one on the chest, covered with cotton material....." and that, "above the band on the front of the crown was the Romanov dynasty's oval cockade in painted tin, in orange, black and white (reading outwards); and on the band itself was the soldier's regimental number stencilled in red (or yellow) numerals". As I dont know any different, Ive based it on this info! I have tried to depict the cap with a separate summer cover and I thought that maybe the cockade was pinned on (guessing!)
Many thanks for taking the time to post the pics, glad you like it,
regards,
Steve(y)

Very nice Steve - I really like this one!! The face is GREAT!! Another one for Model Cellar?? I'm still waiting for Paul to release the US Inf. Sgt. 1812 that you did many many moons ago!! Keep up the GOOD work and looking forward to your future sculpts!! Dave

Martin, in the old photos of Tsar Alexander III era uniforms , are soldiers or gendarmes escort battalions (military police), photographed with entrapment Japanese spy. The picture is not a tunic. Tunics were introduced in 1905.
