Hi Planet Figure friends.... :) :)

I want to start and share with everyone, how I sculpt a 75 mm original figure.

The figure is only for fun of sculpt and in a forgotten theme for many collectors and brands...... the Russian army at Crimea, 1854-1856.

As lover of the middle XIX century uniforms, the Russian uniforms of this war are fascinating, yes, maybe no so colorful as British and French, but beautiful in its tipical Russian and European mix.
I want to sculpt a Russian officer standing with his sword awaiting action. With the Russian spike helmet and long greatcoat.
I sculpt using Epofer A+B clay, a good clay with one hour of dry. I start with a cooper wire armature of the size correct. When I like the pose I start with the basic musculature as your can see in the attached photos. Face and shoes are the next in this process. Here the neck of the greatcoat is added, also the base for the spike helmet.

In the next step I'll start with the visible pants and the front greatcoat skirts.

Thanks for your kind attention and any question or criticism will be welcomed.

Soon new updates!!!.
Sorry so much for so bad photos, I'm not photographer.

Regards my friends!!!!!!!

The photo of the helmet gives the impression that its shape is symmetrical in the side view, but in reality it was not so. The shape of the helmet is clearly visible in these photos (the coat of arms on the forehead of the helmet was different depending on the military unit).

In the photographs, some types of helmets and Colonel of the Life Guards Sapper Battalion N.K. Zatsepin (was killed at the 6th Sevastopol bastion on May 10, 1855).

I couldn't sculpt a toffee, to me this is the dark arts. I am full of admiration as the figure in question begins to form into a miniature.
Following in the hope I will learn something.
Regards

Me too Bob ...it's always great when sculptors share their process when pushing putty

Thanks a lot for your kind comments!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks at SVT for the pics of the helmet, I'll try to change the shape of the helmet for a not so symmetrical look. However this is my second attempt to sculpt a Russian helmet. This is the first one:

Kind regards.... :) :)

excellent, friend Antonio
finally photos of your sculpture process !!
I am sure I will learn a lot from your work
thanks for sharing !!!! I hope to see more of your processes here
Big hug and thanks
Vitalino

Probably then the scheme of an officer's long greatcoat will come in handy. It was the same as the soldier's, but had some differences: pockets with flaps and a slit in the back, fastened with buttons (drawing by V. Malyshev).

Only for fun, my friend. Sadly is a not very commercial theme.... :(

Hi friends..... :) :)

After a time I've needed to work on other projects, as I promised I attach photos with updates in the Russian Officer.

I'm working on the greatcoat front part. I leave the rear part for other work session. The greatcoat is not finished still. Need shoulder boards, pockets flaps and other minor details. Pants also finished.

Any suggestion or question will be welcome.

Very soon new updates!!!

Hi friends......:):):)

As I promised, progress on this figure.

Now, back of the greatcoat, finished. Need still to smooth minor details. The next step will be sword with hands and both arms.

As is habitual any suggestion or questions are welcome.

Thanks a lot for your patience and attention...

Great, but the greatcoat isn't finished yet. Behind the greatcoat there were vertical folds, created with a special cut. The sketchy drawing is probably not enough. This is how the greatcoat of the Russian army looked from 1809 until the end of the Crimean War with only minor changes in details (i repeat again that the officer's greatcoat in the middle of the 19th century had pockets and had a slit in the back at the bottom).

Many thanks SVT for the info..... :)
No problem, I'll try to sculpt the vertical folds using your great photos. Pockets still are not sculpted and the slit in the back is present with it's five buttons, using your first drawing of this greatcoat.

Thanks again.... :)

I mentioned the pockets and the slit only because in the photo shown by me in the previous post, the greatcoat of privates. )
