Excellent work Keith, that looks great, I have one of these myself but I'll be converting him to the 93rd when I get round to it. All the best.
Scotty.
Thanks Scotty,
It was really down to your photo that did it for me on the hose tops, thank you.
This sculpt will look great as a 93rd, with the badger sporran and very slightly lighter tartan. I'll be looking out for it.
Cheers,
Keith

Excellent socks, Keith! Your SBS is a great reference material. I have a 42nd at Quatre Bras at 75mm which is on my list for a while. With your permission I'll use your SBS as a reference material.
Great stuff, Keith!
Cheers,
Zeno
Hi Zeno,
I am pleased that you like the SBS. No need to ask for my permission Mate, it's there to show how I do things and if anyone can use any of my methods I am a very happy man.
Cheers,
Keith

Chimps clause No 1.
Don't you worry mate, we will steal, pinch, borrow, liberate and use any of the aforementioned ideas and techniques gladly that will enhance our work.:D:ROFLMAO:;)

Hi Keith,
I have been sitting on the sidelines watching this one develop and I must say you have these techniques down to an art. You certainly can tell you have done this before and what comes as second nature to you - imparted by your SBS is so fruitful for the rest of us.
There were "Jocks" in the Zulu war too and one day I might just pluck up the courage to have a crack at your SBS!

Keep up the great SBS old lad we are all learning loads.(y) Great work by the way.:)
cheers
Richie

Hi Richie,
I was wondering who that was lurking on the side lines.
It's not altogether second nature for me but I do try to do something that I have not tried before on every figure or painting that I undertake.
I have this delusion that one day all of my accumulated tricks will result in a half decent painting and a half decent box diorama.....then I'll probably call it a day. That said the way things are moving so tentatively they will never transpire.
I have been studying sculpting with David Lemon on You tube, take a look He's pretty good.

As for the Jock's in Zulu Land, I have seen a couple, in trews I think? Can't slot one into the Super Dio Mate?.
Speak soon,
Keith

Hi Keith,
I'm still following with interest mate. Great SBS and love the way you have done the hose, very effective.
Keep up the good work(y)

Barrie.

Hi Keith Yes the new avatar is the master of something that I sculpted to form an armature for subsequent 1/6th scale busts. I have been casting copies in resin to sculpt over. Really helps with proportions and scale.

Great idea John ,
That will knock a lot of time off of the initial shaping of the head. Is your next one the first with this armature?
Well done Mate.
All the best,
Keith

Hi Barrie,
Good to know that you are still following and find something of interest here.
I have finished the other hoes top......all those dots, I can see them in my sleep. That said they seem to work OK.
All the very best,
Keith

Hello Guys,
Have been spending a bit of time base coating the Red jacket. As you will see there are oodles of drapery opportunities on this Victorian Uniform and the jacket is no exception.
My pallet for these initial layers was simply Burnt Umber and Scarlet. These were mixed in to three tones as I am looking for a darker looking jacket;
33% Scarlet / 66% Burnt Umber for the darkest shadow.
I painted this colour into the underside of the deep folds before laying down any other colour, this is a technique used to great effect by pF's Ron Clark.

66% Scarlet / 33% Burnt Umber.
This was painted thinly over the whole jacket and a second coat painted all over except in the deep folds.

100% Scarlet
painted only on the absolute high lights.

Just to get a feel of the piece I dry assembled the right arm and sword (AT totally the wrong angle). See what you think Guys.
All the very best,
Keith

Nice job, great SBS, made me get my half done figure off the shelf!
Hi Rob,
Very kind comments, thank you.
If nothing other than getting a few of you Guys to blow the dust off and start on your own copies, I will be very pleased that I did this SBS.
I will be on the look out for your rendition.
Thank again,
Keith

Looking good Keith and thanks for including your paint mixes. I might just be doing something with a red coat myself, maybe a bit flatter though. :D

Roger.

Hello Roger,
Thanks for commenting mate, much appreciated.
Now you have got me interested in what you have up your sleeve.
Please don't take the mixes too literally, the base and primer colours do have an effect on the finished colour. But you know that anyway.

All the very best Mate,
Keith

Mmmmm that does narrow it down a bit but an awful lot involved red in their uniform,
Wild guess Austrian light cavalry.
I will never guess really Roger.
