Very excited to have finally found such an excellent resource for miniature modeling. I am an absolute novice, but have already purchased my first white metal model from Andrea (a very historically inaccurate, but nevertheless striking model of Mark Antony from their "Roma" line), and am slowly but surely trying to acquire the necessary items to begin what I hope becomes a serious hobby for me!

My main areas of interest are ancient (primarily Roman) history. I only decided to start off with something so inaccurate (historically) because a) I was a big fan of the show (the model is clearly taken from HBO's Rome) and b) I'm assuming the learning curve in this form of artistry is steep, so I'd like to start with something that I'm not afraid to screw up a bit. Hope to start a thread when I begin to detail all of the noob mistakes (and hopefully progress) I'm bound to make, as well as to encourage any advice.

Hi Alexander and welcome to Planet Figure.

I'm a Romaholic too and I have made the Mark Antony figure you mentioned.
For a starter figure I'd recommend the Lucius Vorenus and Titus Pullo figures from Andrea.
They aren't historically accurate but they are pretty good likenesses to the characters in the HBO series.

Welcome Alexander, as 'pmfs', has said there is always somebody at hand to help with whatever questions you have. So never be afraid to ask ! enjoy your painting, that's the main thing.

Regards,

Mark

Thank you for the warm welcome, gentleman. I'll definitely try to take your advice regarding the Pullo/Vorenus instead of Antony, Tony. "Romaholic"....I like that! It fits nicely with my insatiable thirst for all things Roman haha!

I have to admit though, one thing that I enjoy so much about the world of miniatures so far (as an outsider looking in) is the vast range of different historical periods represented....makes me want to learn about different periods.

Alex you will be painting figures, that you had never even thought about in a short space of time ! and learning about the subject matter :D

Regards,

Mark

Before going from antique roman period to another, you have first to paint the 27.72o figures existing on the subject ;)

Welcome
