Gents,

I was wondering of some of you guys have some nice templates of Japanese outfits...I'd like to use them on my Tamiya 1/35 Samurais. The colourschemes which ought to be used are (too) dull / darkcoloured for me and I need some nice colourfull outfits. Does anyone has some nice drawings or pictures ?

Thanks in advance.

One of the best books out there on Samurai (in my opinion) is "The Samurai Recreated in Colour Photographs" by Mitsuo Kure & Ghislaine Kruit. The book has pictures of modern re-enactment groups which have reproduced the historical costumes. The neat part is they show you the layers of clothes and step by step how they are put on. I found it to be very insightful.

Two Oprey books are “Met at Arms 86: Samurai Armies 1550-1615” and “The Samurai” both are so-so, have color plate drawings in the middle.

Finally another book that is a little more expensive is “Samurai – The weapons and spirit of the Japanese warrior” This book has several photos of old painting and drawings of samurai during their time. It does have a short chapter on the armor along with photographs (very nice) of the actually museum pieces. However the rest of the book is dedicated to their weapons. It is an exceptional read (in my opinion) that is accompanied with wonderful photos of actual swords, bow, bow cases, guns (very decorative), etc..

I hope this helps.
