Hi all

I'm pleased to announce my latest release - back to WW1 but changing to the German side with a bust of Admiral von Tirpitz - quite an interesting beard!!!

The battleship named after him is probably better known, but he was considered to be the father of the German navy being the driving force behind its expansion into the second largest fleet in the world.

The bust depict him in the uniform of a Grand Admiral.

Peter Day has decided to take a break from commissions so the photo is of the unpainted bust.

It is available from my website: https://sarnia-miniatures.co.uk/p/grand-admiral-tirpitz

All comments are very welcome

I think, the bust has a good likeness!

And the proportions are right, the "two-master" on the head was actually so flat ...:

On yopur template-picture he wears the follwowing orders and medals...:

Round the neck the Grand Cross of the Order from the Read Eagle

Cheers

Cheers Martin

Another question out of interest ...there's a star on his right by the aguilette .....is this one of the ones already mentioned in another way of wearing ?

Looking forward to seeing Peters painting of this bust

The black and white card shows Tirpitz at earlier times, when he had a lower rank. The photo shows him as Vice Admiral.

His career:

19. March 1849: Born as Alfred Peter Friedrich Tirpitz
22. September 1869: Unterleutnant zur See (Sub-Lieutenant at sea)
25. May 1872: Leutnant zur See
18. November 1875: Kapitänleutnant
17. September 1881: Korvettenkapitän (Corvette Captain)
4. November 1888: Kapitän zur See (Captain at sea)
?.? 1895: Konteradmiral (Rear Admiral)
6. June 1897: Staatsekretär im Reichsmarineamt (Secretary of State of the Imperial Navy office)
5. December 1899: Vizeadmiral (Vice-Admiral)
12. June 1900: Raised to the Prussian nobility (Alfred von Tirpitz)
14. November 1903: Admiral (Full Admiral)
27. January 1911: Großadmiral (Grand Admiral)
15. März 1916: (Forced) Resignation after quarrel with Kaiser Wilhelm II. about the unrestricted U Boot War
6. March 1930: Died.

Quite a bust of a remarkable personage! On my "someday I will buy" list! (First, I must thin my stash!)

Hi Guys

Thanks for all the compliments, support and the great reference materials. His right side epaulette, the one with the lanyard, differed from the photo in that it did not have the crossed batons because von Tirpitz was a Grand Admiral without patent.
